The real explanation for his last second switch on signing day and the reason nothing will come of this pathetic display of manhood on video is that he was paid. State will do nothing to him and he will play. Simmons will do what he wants or he will spill the beans. That is all.

In all seriousness, as awful as it is, you can't punish the kid before he's on the team. Kicking someone off a team and revoking your commitment to give them a spot are two completely different decisions.

Especially after signing day, when it removes his chance to play anywhere else.

If he were a current player, I would say beat him with a hose and kick him off the team. Since he isn't, he hasn't been under any of your rules yet to actually violate them. Good opportunity to give a kid some of that act right.

this is correct. and if there are no criminal charges filed then there is really no reason to disqualify the kid.

Yeah you can. It's pretty simple actually. You beat a woman that's already on the ground and you're not welcome here. It's pretty cut and dry actually, especially with multiple videos showing him doing it.

You absolutely can punish him and should in this situation. Actions have consequences whether you're on the team or not.

He isn't playing, dude. I guarantee he never sees the field. This is one of the societal issues that is a huge fricking deal right now. Racism, feminism and domestic abuse. He is long gone and will be changing tires in noxubee for 40 years to come.

It isn't cut and dry though. You can try to simplify it like that but real life situations are rarely simple. You've accepted the kid's LOI, he cannot play elsewhere. What he did was shitty but you are dealing with a young man's life and future.

That is the same type of thinking that has us ruining the lives of 18 year olds for smoking weed. You have to help people. It doesn't matter if they fricked up, they are still people. It's our duty to attempt to correct rather than just flat out condemn.

Assuming that he has already been accepted to the University, Mississippi State can punish him under their student rules.

Definition of a Student

quote:

The term student is defined as any person who has been accepted for admission or re-admission to the University

Smoking weed is doing damage to himself, not harm to a defenseless WOMAN on the ground.

well, they can do what LSU did with Jeremy Hill (team vote, i know). LSU wouldn't allow him on the team his freshman season until his legal issues were settled. This caused him to delay playing for an entire season out of high school. If that's the end result for Simmons, well that's just something he's going to have to take responsibility for and deal with. But I do agree that it's a little difficult to completely cut ties with the kid before he's ever stepped foot on campus without a criminal conviction.

ETA: I still think State will cut ties with him, though. Violence against women is a pretty hot topic right now, and State would face a ton of PR backlash if they don't handle this correctly

The problem with State cutting him, is like others in the past, he will play JUCO and then come back to a D1 school........of which State would probably not be one of the ones he'd go to since they canned him.

Not sure State is willing to give up on him, knowing he one day play against them. Believe they will do what they can to keep him.

On another note, wasn't there some type of rule made that would prevent transfers into the SEC of players with violet crimes histories? If so, would that possibly prevent him from coming into the SEC for a JUCO?

Yes there was a rule passed like that, but would Simmons even fall under that rule if he hasn't even begun taking classes? Would he even be called a transfer? The rule is that SEC schools cannot accept transfers that were previously dismissed for "serious misconduct." One of the offenses listed was domestic violence or sexual violence. This honestly won't even fall under domestic violence. It being a woman doesn't make it domestic. If she were connected to him through family or a prior domestic relationship, it would. This appears to be a basic assault case to me.

Kid made a terrible choice and I hope he is punished and learns from this.
I also see a lot of hypocritical posters on this site. TSUN mad cause they would still take him but they didn't get him. And any other school would still take him if they could.
Not condoning his actions but people have looked the other way for worse. So give up all the threads TSUN posters. He will be sacking your qb next year and there is no amount of threads that will stop it.
