we are not discussing uga. if you would like me to recite bama's record during that period i am happy to. the point is this:
you and the rest of your bama friends are living in a fantasy world if you believe that this era will continue indefinitely.
i actually seem to respect your football coach more than some bama fans...because i recognize how truly unique and special saban has been for bama.
you wil not replace him easily as many of YOUR fans seem to suggest.

yes, yes, we know. "Alabama will never dominate like they did in the 60's or 70's or 20teens. Yes, we know no coach will want to come to a place that is as dedicated to winning as Tuscaloosa. It will just not be possible. Quality coaches will avoid this place like the plague."

We'll hire Les. The roster will still be good enough to to win a couple of championships.

The show will go on when Saban calls it quits. There will be other coaches who get a statue at the walk of Champions. There were plenty before and there will be plenty after.

He dies after a month like the Bear.

did alabama even have a team between 1997 and 2007?
I wonder if anything else was going on in that time period? Like serious multi-year scholarship reductions in 1996 and 2002 covering most of the entire decade and a coach pulling a Petrino thrown in as a bonus?
Nah, it couldn't be related to any of those issues.

You are a moron. Nobody thinks this run will continue forever. That said, Alabama always has and will return to the elite. People said the same thing when Bear retired, and two coaches have won four nattys since. The decade you cited was likely the worst in our history with two major probations and still managed an SEC Title and three ten win seasons.
Hell...Curry, Dubose, Shula and Fran all won 10 games in a season and two of the four won an sec title! Let that sink in for a minute. If you don't think Bama will still be very very good when Saban retires look at Lsu right now.

Will Alabama just go downhill or will the winning continue?
That's at least 8 years away, why worry about it now?

Really impressed with him.....I like Sumlin still... however the luster is wearing off because he wont reign in johnny. I watched an interview with Kirby after fan day i think it was and im really impressed with him. I think it would be seamless to transition.

The ironic thing about this thread is that history actually points to the opposite - with a few exceptions, the legendary programs tend to rediscover their status and few teams break into that elite level at this point.
All you have to do is ask yourself how many times you've laughed about Alabama expecting to return to the level of success under Bear Bryant...and then ask yourself where we sit right now.
Same thing with Notre Dame after Rockne, Oklahoma after Wilkinson, USC after McKay. None of these programs stay anchored at the top permanently, but given time, they remarkably return to the heights that everyone was so convinced they could never again reach.

I think they should hire Nutt as HC with Kiffin as OC and Ogeron as DC.

I like Al Golden at Miami. He is weathering a mess down there. And he won at TEMPLE. Could be one to watch down the road.

Saban wins because he has the best players, and all the money to find them.

Itll be Smart after some MAJOR grilling from the higher ups. I wouldnt be surprised if they go for Sean Payton for like $7 million a year

REC hires armed thugs to visit the knees of Colin Kaepernick, Patrick Willis, Vernon Davis, Aldon Smith, Navaro Bowman and Michael Crabtree. Marcus Lattimore is spared out of respect.
