You’re laughing. He’s played very little in college, but he’s already graduated from FSU. He just transferred to Alabama and should win the starting job. At 6-5, 230, he’s a big boy with a cannon.

Even they know putting him in the mock draft is laughable

Not saying Coker necessarily, but what type stats does everyone think that an Alabama qb needs for Bama to win 10 games?

If the QB can't complete enough passes teams will just stack the box and if the OLine doesn't do a good enough job of opening holes then the offense won't do much. Offensively it will be like VT last year.

You put an average QB in last year and Bama would have lost to A&M. Plus State and LSU would have stayed in the game longer and possibly won. Losing 2 of those 3 because QB play would have only been 9 wins.

Yet they put him there, didn't they? The Aub I was responding to said that only Bama fans are hyping Coker, and that isn't close to being accurate.

People make wild picks with mock drafts all the time. Mostly just to be different than everyone and hope they luck up and get someone no one else is naming. Besides there is no way to know the guy making that isn't a Bama fan. He even pointed out how funny the pick is. He would have to be better than AJ and GM to go that high and that is a huge reach in only one year of starting in college.

There are QBs with the right size and arm strength all the time that aren't worth a crap. Coker hasn't done anything to suggest he is even a good college QB let alone a NFL QB.

First off I'm not defending him. I agree with you. He hasn't proven shite. I was just asking a base question on what everyone thought a Qb's stats needed to be to be 10 win successful. Alabama has talent to hide some qb problems but what would be too much to hide. I wasn't defending anyone it was an honest question.
JFF had some of the best stats possible for a QB last year and they couldnt win 10 games. ie, stats dont equal wins

You're right, I'm hoping that whoever plays qb can just keep the int's down. They don't have to be world beaters just don't turn the ball over. Blake Sims has thrown tons of int's during a days, and Coker looks like he tries to force the ball at times.

Agreed, but you must admit that Bama fans aren't the only ones. Here are some BOL responses to that mock draft to help you get a feel for what most Bama fans are thinking:

quote:

Let's pump the brakes a bit on Coker.

quote:

do people know something I don't? This kid hasn't started a game.

quote:

ummm, he's jesus with pads on

quote:

Yeah, Coker and Winston really clawed their way through a spring battle. Seems Winston had a few legs up on Coker. Time will tell if Coker is the real deal I guess - otherwise I'm sure the staff won't leave any stone unturned for the next QB

quote:

For the sake of argument and to play devil's advocate a bit... if timely reads and decision making were problems for him in the FSU offense ( remember, he was surpassed by a red-shirt freshman) then those tendancies ain't goin' away just 'cause he's in Tuscaloosa now. And for what it's worth, I wish them all the best... I just hope we get one of the QBs, whoever it is, to take charge and be THE man. If it's JCoker ( like apparently the coaching staff anticipates), then more power to 'im

quote:

Can the kid throw a pass before everyone bills him as the next Namath?

quote:

I really hate mocks a good year before the draft. They set up unrealistic expectations

I think most Bama fans are realistic about Coker. You'll find some who buy the heisman and first round talk, but most just want him to be serviceable.

Jff had too many turnovers. Granted stats don't win games, but turnovers get you beat. If Bama's qb can have less than 8 int's and around 2300 yards and maybe 17 touchdowns, I would be happy. That might not get them 10 games, but at least I couldn't blame them for the whole season.

I would switch it to some Alabama fans are realistic. Most believe he will lead Alabama to another National Championship, and if you are being realistic, then you know that aint happening. Not this year. Now 2015, it will be a real possibility

So he goes from 3rd string at FSU to transferring to Bama to 1st round pick? If that happens y'all should fire Saban on the spot and turn it over to Kiffin.

I don't think it's as far fetched as you do. While I don't think it will happen this year, you never know. Sometimes raw talent and motivation can overcome a lack of experience. See Auburn last season.

Nah. Don't want to take away LSU's future coach. You gave us Saban. We give you Kiffin. Fair trade?

Unless he threw one of those INTs in the fourth quarter amirite? JK

3:1 TD to INT ratio is where you want to be. 2:1 is acceptable. Anything less and you have a bad Qb on your hands

I have seen a few in the media say he competed with Winston but they are just going off the FSU's coach speak. The only others talk about size and arm strength and being mobile but nothing about his numbers or anything that shows anything he has proven.

The Bama fans I am talking about act like its a forgone conclusion he will beat out Sims because how bad Sims looked. But there isn't anything to show he is any better. The fact they believe Bama will still win the SEC and be in it for the NC shows they expect to be better with him than last year with AJ.

I don't know what to expect from him. I just don't think there is anything to say he's better than Sims yet. I would be worried in the same situation just like I was with Marshall last year. Marshall was more accurate but he also threw INTs as much as TDs on deep balls.

Last year Auburn had a very experienced team though. They were young for what, three years haha

Just being honest, but if Jff would have had a top 20 defense I really think that they could have won it all.

Did you see how bad Sims looked? If Coker weren't coming in, I honestly think Cooper Bateman would probably beat out Sims.

There's potential. Having a 5'11 read option quarterback in a pro-style offense is just asking for shite to hit the fan. A 6'4 quarterback with some mobility and a decent arm looks a lot more promising.

For those who think we are going to the NCG, here is the line of thinking (in order of importance):
1.) Our D-Line is supposed to be a lot better than last year. The D-line last year had the worst production since CNS has been coach.
2.) Our D-line looking better will put less pressure on our secondary.
3.) Eddie Jackson heals in time for the meat of the schedule.
4.) Landon Collins plays up to his potential now that he has a greater knowledge of the playbook.
5.) While we lose Mosley, we also get to lose Hubbard. Hubbard couldn't keep contain on a group of school girls.

(Notice how all of the above reasons have to do with our defense)

6.) Maybe our o-line will improve with another year under Cristobal and an absolute stud JUCO.
7.) Cooper having a contract year.
8.) Yeldon's contract year (maybe he holds on to the football?)
9.) Coker fulfilling the GMc role.

I would be happy with Bama running the read option with Sims. I don't trust Coker yet and I don't understand why anyone would. Most Bama fans would just like for him to come in and manage the game and not screw up. It is the obnoxious ones that truly believe that he will come in and set records.
