If y'all hire Petrino, you'll have a damn good coach and it will be a bitch playing you while he's there.

I think most Hog fans resigned themselves to the idea that Petrino would someday coach in the SEC again. Hasn't happened yet, but feel it's almost inevitable.

I wish him the best of luck wherever he lands.

Correct me if I'm wrong, there were quite a few Auburn posters (well, every fan base really) saying if Arkansas didn't fire Petrino, we would make the SEC look bad. I'm more interested right now in what those posters think.

Under BP, we made it to number 3 in the country. Do stars matter? Yes, for 99% of coaches, not BP.

Those lack of stars is exactly why he was never going to be better than a 2nd or 3rd place team in the West. Considering how good the West has been the last five or six years that is pretty damn good, but to get over the hump you have to have great players on defense and BP just wasn't going to get that done at Arkansas.

So I have to disagree that stars don't matter to BP.

Honestly I think it's funny that the same Auburn fans that argued nonstop that Chizik should be ahead of Petrino in the offseason coaching rankings over the past few years are now falling all over themselves to hire him.

never did this, he was #2 on my lists

If Aub hires him it'll just encapsulate what it is to be a Hog/Chicago Cubs fan. Almost but just couldn't quite get to the mountain top. Only to find out late we were never friggin close. Back down to Base Camp 1. Reload. Try again.

There were. And it's fricking sad how many have done the exact same thing they made fun of Arky fans for. frick Petrino.

Arkansas will not hire a nobody Jeff Long has too much riding on this hire. When you fire a 21-5 Coach you better make sure you replace him with a winning one.

I've never understood why the AD at Arkansas was held responsible for the hiring of the girl that Petrino was involved with. Didn't he have to approve her hiring, even though he knew that she didn't have the qualifications for the job? The only reason he approved her was because the Coach wanted her to have the job, and he wanted to act like he didn't know something was going on? Be real, if Petrino was fired because of the hiring of his girlfriend, then the AD should have been fired for allowing it to happen.
I think that Petrino just wants another chance, and would never do something like this again, and would be a good coach for someone to have. I hope Auburn doesn't get him, but if they truly want to change their program, they would be crazy not to go after him.

It wasn't like she was totally unqualified. Rather there were just some people more qualified in the list. However, Long seems like a hands-off type and likely trusted Petrino with choosing his own staff. She worked there already, and her fiancé did as well. There was no real reason for Long to to know they were sleeping together.

I'll be pissed. I've always thought the man and his reputation could have been rehabilitated and that there was no reason that it shouldn't have happened at Arkansas so that we could continue to reap not only the benefits of his coaching ability, but what would one day become a feel good story of screwing up and redemption that would resonate with recruits and their families.

Anyone with any PR sense would have played it that way from the start. But, Jeffry and David Gearhardt (formally at Penn State) were too determined to prove that Arkansas was "different" in the wake of the bad publicity from Penn State, Cam Newton, and others that had rocked college football for a year or so.
