Wow, now I'm convinced. So why did LSU really pursue him?
Because he was talented. They backed off when it became obvious he wouldn't qualify and Michael Ford was on board. LSU didn't feel the need to stick their necks out for him.
Eta: And in the end it worked out for all. He would have never made it at LSU. Getting away was the best thing he ever did for himself. He had some serious baggage over here.

Never heard about any rape, but my cousin went to school with him and said he was not very intelligent. I know there was worry that he would not qualify. Who knows?

That is incorrect. He was actually average in the intelligence department. He just had absolutely everything handed to him so he got extremely lazy to the point to where you had to baby him to get him to do school work. You would have to completely separate him and watch him. It was a lot to do with the way the coaches handled him. Kelvin York on the other hand was the hardest worker you'll ever meet but was not very bright. He was first in and last out on every practice or football related activity which may have been who your cousin was thinking of.

The rape deal stayed extremely quiet. I'm pretty sure it was during basketball season when it happened. In fact it may have been before a basketball game.

Kept LSU away...not serious I am certain. LSU was pissed. This will be followed by Landon Collins not wanted by tigers.

He is probably an NCAA investigator trying to get the "scoop". This board has broke some good news before things hit ESPN. Especially on the expansion front.

Not a clue. Only reason I know about Lacy's is because we were in the locker room when the coaches called a meeting about it. It was really stupid and the girls decision. I don't really blame a bunch of guys for wanting head. It shouldn't even fall in the same book as rape. Just pissed parents looking for excuses of why little Susie is a whore.

Just want it noted that I didn't say shite about Lacy's incident. In fact, both he and Hill had almost exact stories. That wasn't the reason LSU stopped pursuing him. Also, remember that LSU wasn't the only school that backed off. Bama was his only offer.

I just went back and read a Rivals article from Jan. 22, 2009. Lacy claimed that LSU found out that he was getting closer to being eligible and was trying to talk to him about coming to LSU. He went on to say that LSU wasn't there when things looked bad whereas other schools were. His high school coach is quoted as saying that he had a 50-50 shot at qualifying.

It's all hindsight today. Back then, if we keep pursuing Lacy, Ford never commits. At the time, Ford owned a few state rushing records and was a highly rated recruit. Talk about backing the wrong horse.

oh look another dodge and deflect from a bama fan
to answer your question though, pretty similar situation to Lacy. If I remember correctly, Hill had the grades but had to sit out to settle legal trouble

The article also talks about a spot opening up for a RB due to Dexter Pratt flipping to Okie State. IDK how true that is though.

Everything fisherbm1112 is saying is completely correct. Eddie wasn't stupid, he was just completely lazy and handed everything in life, including amazing athletic ability. For example, he would play basketball while he was supposed to be in the weight room with his teammates.
Also, I remember the incident that happened with the girl. If my memory is correct, not only was it not considered "statutory" but I believe she was actually in a grade higher than him.

Bama was not Eddie's only offer, the vols with lane Kiffin were all over him and he almost went with the vols. I remember we had trent richardson committed but LSU and UF were trying to pry him away and then we had the vols telling he would never get the ball with trent richardson at bama. We were lucky to get both Lacy and Richardson in one year.
