quote:

Howland said he's never had a player in his 37 years of coaching with a body as "ripped" as Woodard's. He compared Woodard to a "Greek figure" and joked that he'd put him on the 'skins' team during Thursday's practice so the media could see what he was talking about.

"We could make a lot of money with a poster of him," Howland said. "He is unbelievable."

quote:

Woodard, chiseled frame and all, will be one of Mississippi State's most important players this season. After losing Lamar Peters, Quinndary Weatherspoon and Aric Holman, Mississippi State will undoubtedly have a different look this year. Woodard doesn't think that's necessarily a bad thing.

quote:

He'll miss the first 10 games of the season for a violation of team rules, but Howland said Weatherspoon will be the starting point guard when he makes his season debut on Dec. 22 against New Mexico State.

quote:

Sophomore guard Reggie Perry flirted with entering the NBA Draft but decided not to do so at the deadline in May. A member of last year's All-SEC Freshman Team, Perry might be Mississippi State's best player. Howland said State's offense will flow through him, especially when Weatherspoon is out early in the year.

I'm sure they will lose a few games.

Very unlikely a college basketball team goes undefeated.

Mississippi State will probably start off with an inflated record because of a weak non-conference, have a lot of confidence going into SEC season, and then fall back down to earth. Isn't that what usually happens to them?

I don’t think Nick Weatherspoon will make a good point guard. So the loss of Lamar Peters, as erratic as he was, will sting. Nick has breakaway speed, but I’ve never seen anything to indicate he has the handles and the vision to be a good PG.
