He'll be a lot less funny when he's losing....

It's about the Jimmy's and the Joe's, and Blue-chip high school WR's and QB's all over the South will have MSU on their short list.

Maybe five plays into watching film, something happened that sparked a classic Mike Leach tangent. For at least an hour, he sat there rewinding and playing the same play over and over while he talked about everything from growing up in Wyoming to having a pet raccoon, getting paddled by the principal at his junior high, the origins of football and eventually just a full-blown Native American history lesson.

There's only 1 thing that could make this hire better:

saw that and had to immediately adjust my pants.
he's already a better fit than Gurt based on this alone

This post suggests that State can't beat any of the other SEC teams which is a dumb take. State has recently beat A&M, LSU, Aub and has played Bama close. It's no going to happen every year but State can and will beat those teams in a good year.
Sorry, but really meant to say that Leach went into the Pac12 and got WSU back to beating the Stanfords but not the Washingtons. The SEC West is a two - 2.5 team league. I think Leach will help you solidly be in the hunt for 3-5 of the SEC West every year. Sort of like he was in the Pac12 and the Big12.

Leach will beat the teams where MSU has better talent across the board & he’ll surprise a team or two each year including screwing up someone’s magical season every year or two.
Consistent bowl appearances, on & offf the field excitement, a peak “special” year a few times a decade & many David & Goliath specials.
Exactly what a program like State needs & realistically the best scenario they could hope for. Fantastic hire.

He’s not really funny anyway. He’s neurotic and eccentric yes.
He’s graded on a pretty easy scale. They cream their pants every time he speaks because the vast majority of coaches have very little personality at all.
Now though, he may be less funny when he’s losing if he’s coaching YOUR team. I imagine it’s all going to be pretty entertaining from the outside though

I think "perfect starting dip" will go down in the annals of history.
State's got 'em a good one, fellas.

Could not agree more
As far as anyone chirping about whether Leach will be entertaining or not, it sounds like they are taking CFB more seriously than the coach making $5 million a year. That's sad, for them. Then again, these are the same miserable pricks who can't wait to spend their time trolling a message board.so...

This is so awesome.
Guess I'm gonna have to change my favorite team in my settings back to normal now.

It was. I think there will be more flux moving forward. I'm not saying either Ms. school suddenly competes for Division Champs but who knows what it's going to look like 3-4 yrs from now.

3-9, 3-9, then he gets it rolling with some 8-5s. 5th year, you win 10.

Halliday: I said to Leach, “What do I need to do to get the ball there on time?” He was like, “Well, just throw it to the guy who’s fricking open.” I was like, “Yeah, no, I get that dude, but what do you want me to do to get there quicker?” And he was like, “I don’t give a shite what you do. Just throw it to the guy who’s fricking open.”
He will never be replicated or duplicated.

Leach is going to help you beat A&M and OM and Arkansas now and again, and that's about it.
But it will be worth it.
This is a true statement.
Especially the "worth it" part. It will be worth it to lose to State sometimes, if it means we get the glorious entertainment value of CJk5H!!!

Check out the athletic piece about his first TT staff
He would have Aranda and Holgorsen make movie clips from old western films and they’d start off each staff meeting by breaking down the movie clips.

Aranda: Leach loved movies. He would have us get movie clips and the coaches would have to present them — “OK, here is the moral, here is the deal.” I think it was a good concept, but we did it like every day.
Part of the game would be getting scripts together, getting these drawings together, getting the practice together and then Dana would have to go to Blockbuster Video and get videos. I would walk in and he’d be fast-forwarding this movie like “Tombstone”. “Hey, do you think you could talk about this?” It was crazy.

That last story is simply incredible! LOL!
I think he goes to a new team just to retell all his amazing stories and theories. He is the perfect fit for MSU. Congratulations. He’s also fearless which you need in this conference.
