The oval makes for improved sight lines.
The problem is Bryant-Denny's "sight lines" require fans to sit in another zip code.
Fans on the sidelines sit further away from the field than anywhere else in the conference, similar to where fans sit in the Rose Bowl, Coliseum, and The Big House.
It's old school, and the only way to improve the "sight lines" would be to nuke it from orbit (to be sure) and start over.
It fails the most basic function of a football stadium...to give fans a good CLOSE view of the action on the field.
Don't hate the messenger.

That literal ocean of dead space on the sidelines is plain ridiculous. It's like having end zones at all the cardinal points of the field.
?
I've never noticed or heard about this before but you are right.
If you are a Bama fan shelling out no telling what for seats down close and between the 30s...hell it looks like you are still a good ways away from the field even if you are sitting in the first 5 rows. What an awful design for the fans.

I'm not a fan of the huge curve at Bryant-Denny, but if you think Tiger Stadium has great sightlines, I think that hurts your credibility on the subject a bit. In fact, if proximity to the field is your thing, Tiger Stadium isn't great because, like so many other stadiums, it was originally built with a track around the field, so the sideline stands (which still sit where they did when there was a track around the field) are not especially close to the action. The upper deck seats at Tiger Stadium seem ludicrously far from the field to me. I've sat near the top of the Tiger Stadium east side, and I must say that sitting at top of Tiger Stadium felt like I was watching the game from Mississippi.

Yes, yes I did and meant it! A program of such distinction should have a stadium with sufficient amenities and necessities to stand amongst the best!

I don't recall Tiger Stadium ever having a track.

Tiger Stadium's footprint is smaller than Kyle Field's. You could place Tiger Stadium inside Kyle Field's footprint and have room left over.
So if you think the upper decks at Tiger Stadium are far away, you're actually sitting farther away from the field in the upper decks at Kyle Field.
The more you know.

Our stadium is nice and y’all’s sucks. I’d be jealous too

I hate UF more than I hate Bama, but I have to give respect to their stadium

Not a lot of old images of Tiger Stadium with a track, but there are some:
Basically, the track got obliterated by the mid 1930's north endzone addition, although you can still see it when that part was first built:
quote:You have anything that will verify that? Hard to get a precise measurement, but taking a quick look on Google Earth, I've got the back edge of the roofs at over the top decks at Kyle Field being 227 meters apart, and the back edge of the upper decks at Tiger Stadium being 232 meters apart. So, that's a 5 meter distance right there, which doesn't take into account that the roofs at Kyle Field extend about 40 feet further out over the back edge of the stands. Again, that was a quick look and I could be wrong, but I think you'll find that at least on the sidelines, Tiger Stadium is considerably wider.
Tiger Stadium's footprint is smaller than Kyle Field's

LSU track and field never used Tiger Stadium as a track to my knowledge.

This is what you see on Google Earth...
In any case, Kyle Field occupies 2,135,500 sf of space.

Your using a web version. You can see the renovation finished on the app.

Wouldn't matter. You can clearly see the footprint based on where the 4 anchor towers are/would be located.

Student sections weren't worth a shite in the 1930s either.

The back of the Kyle field awnings being about even with the back of tiger stadium is about what I would’ve expected. As was mentioned, the backs of the top rows are within the out-out of the awnings.
It’s likely that Kyle field having a 3rd deck overlap the 2nd deck is what allows Kyle to put people slightly closer to the field.
