Yea, Johnny Majors leaving Pitt right after his natty to come save his alma mater was not at all comparable to Scholl’s betrayal of Aggies

When the Rockets drafted Rodney McCray over Clyde Drexler.

I mean the only reason this is a big deal is because he went to a rival. Had he been a HC at say clemson him moving on to Texas would not that big a deal. There are only a few college baseball programs you don't say no to and Texas is one of them. Was it handled the right way ? no but even had A&M matched the offer you still go to Texas.

The fact that he and the entire staff are going, and were working players and potentially recruits while playing for a championship is what's so weird.

Without the championship dynamic, I'd say the way Kiff and O left Tennessee is the closest comparison that jumps to my mind, just because of the staff and recruits being part of it.

Lane Kiffin bolting for USC in the middle of the night like TWO weeks before signing day (back when the Feb signing day was the only signing day) well after every other decent head coach that cycle had already been hired elsewhere royally frickED Tennessee football.

Granted, we were idiots for making Derek Dooley become the head coach and not letting Kippy Brown be the interim for the 2010 season. But still, Lane Kiffin departing WHEN he did set us back years

I think the Kiffin thing is the closest. But given we don't even have a week to get somebody in place, and the transfer portal exists now it is infinitely worse.

I don't get this part, what's the "right" way to handle it?

Tell his cllose buddy Chris Del Conte to wait until they get back from Omaha and focus on his current team in the meantime. That's obvious.

Then negotiations are just getting started about right now. The portal closes July 2, are you sure that's what you really want?

Yup. It wasn’t even necessarily the fact Kiffin left for his “dream job” at USC. It was the timing and manner of his departure that screwed us. We had a monster class coming in that totally fell apart because he left us without a head coach like two weeks before signing day (back when there was only one signing day). Kiffin and Orgeron screwed Tennessee

Calipari from UK to Arkansas, although I think both parties were happy.

The portal closes for entry, not signings.

Wouldn't have made much difference to wait a couple days.

But my main point is that he could have had his staff focused on Omaha and made the deal quickly when they got back with a trophy.

again, that's for PLAYERS TO ENTER. That is not the deadline to sign players out of the portal.

No doubt, but lets say Schloss is announced as going to Texas tomorrow, you have an even smaller window to find a new coach.

Is that what you want?

You seem to be operating under the assumption that you win the natty if this Texas thing doesn't happen, I'm not entirely sure that's true.

Coach PoS should have just left in May. He wasn't actually doing his job from the time he accepted the handshake deal in April. Would have been better all things considered. No rumors get out, no outright lies to deal with. No media backlash.

Selfishly I hope this doesn’t happen, but if you guys just were to go ahead and hire Josh Elander from us then aTm baseball will have found a guy that couldn’t be more perfect of a fit for them. He’s a young, hungry, high energy ELITE recruiter that happens to also be the BEST pure hitting coach in college baseball right now.

Seems like y’all’s pride and deep pockets are demanding a big time head coach who is already established as a head coach. But I’m telling you guys, Josh Elander is the closest thing out there to being the next Tony Vitello.

Elander would have yall winning a shite ton of games while dropping bomb after bomb along the way for decades to come. He’d gladly make the rivalry with Texas personal to him and would happily make it his life mission to make Scholl’s Texas program his program’s bitch. Seriously

Now we're back to unfounded rumors.

At the same time, if he leaves, Aggies would be crying that his departure is a distraction for a title competing team.

I'd love Elander. He's also an assistant so we aren't screwing some other team the way Texas and the PoS did to us. I don't think we hire a name.
