I dont see why so many are impressed with Harsin ? I will agree that they are tougher on Defense but is that Harsin or Mason ?

Bo is still Bo

Their OL cant pass block

They have no Wr's

Recruiting is an abortion

So you don't know when signing day is?

I can help you. Gus left with a class ranked in the 80s. This class is in the 30s. Not close to our average, but certainly a better trajectory. Add to the fact that Harsin might actually develop the talent he gets.

Still improved over his time with Gus. Still inconsistent.

You want to see an abortion, take a look at the 2021 class when Gus was fired.

There's no question this team is improved from last year and that is because of coaching. But aside from filling out a few spots in the 2021 class (taking it from the 80s to the teens) and taking transfers, Harsin and staff are coaching the players they were left with.

But I won't really judge the program until the end of the season. If we drop games to Miss State and USC, then we are not better. Win those two and still lose to Bama we are still better than last year and I feel a lot better moving forward with the relatively unknown than the devil we knew in Gus.

They fired a coach that won a national championship as as OC, then took them to the title game, had no clear replacement for him, and ended up making a "so so" hire.

I stopped right here. Nice try.

They've lost 4 or more games every year since the fluke year. So I'd say they are going to stay about the same they've been. Lots of 9-4 and 8-5.

To expound on that, since 2000 Auburn has had only 3 yrs where they lost less than 4 games 2004/2010/2013, and 2 those were during their best recruiting years in their history.

It seems like its been a while since they strung together back to back 9 win seasons.

247 class rankings
2017 AU #9
2018 AU #12
2019 AU #11
2020 AU #7
2021 AU #19

Harsin wasn't left with a bag of no talent shite. They do have an uphill battle with that oline, but they have some talent to work with.

That's correct. But he woefully neglected the OL, which is pretty damn important to SEC football.

And the rankings don't tell the whole story. Don't have time to look now, but I'm certain a lot of the players who made up those last couple of classes (2019 and 2020) are no longer a part of the team. What good are 4 and 5* players when they are playing at another school?

Harsin can coach - Auburn is tough, with good defense and a diverse offense. The real question is can he recruit

LSU is the opposite of this one!

Harsin inherited a much better team than most first year coaches do.

Aubie has holes but it wasn’t a complete dumpster fire. We’ll see how he holds up.

2017 and 2018 would be all the upperclassmen this year. I left off any transfers(juco or not) that came in and graduated vs actually transferred out or got booted. These are all the players that signed and left from the last 4 classes under Malzahn.

2017 - 21 signees - Players ranked #1, 2(NFL), 5, 7, 8, 9(NFL), 10(NFL), 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18

2018 - 23 signees - Players ranked #1, 2, 3, 4, 7(NFL), 9, 10(NFL), 11, 12, 13, 14, 20, 22, 23(punter in the NFL!)

2019 - 21 signees. Players ranked #3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 17, 18 and 20

2020 - 27 signees - Players ranked #4, 10, 17 and 27

As always, the exact opposite direction that a reasonable person would suspect based on recent events.

The only way we're going to be able to remain competitive is if we can crush it in the transfer portal and give the staff time to show they can develop talent and relationships in this part of the country.

CharlieTiger:

in his last 2 years at Auburn, Malzahn did not sign one single OL out of high school. It was all transfers and juco guys. And that is why our OL is getting eaten alive by the DL's of uga, A&M and probably bama.

Sooo is going after the transfer portal good or bad for Auburn?
