I remember when Alabama would only hire a football coach who had played at Alabama or coached under Bryant. That was a dismal time. It was arrogance. The thought was “no one else can understand what it means to be Alabama”. Well, when you go 3-8 or 5-6 it doesn’t really matter. Everyone understands that.
