So I've been posting for over 10 years on this site and I'm one the reasons people think it's gone down hill RECENTLY? Ok.

And please show me exactly where I impugned the deceased in my opening statement. I tired to word it to be as respectful as I could.

quote:

Just over a week ago, all of college football was grieving for and with UGA over the loss of Devin Willock, 20, and Chandler LeCroy, 24. However as time progresses and we learn more details about the situation, it seems like there was a little bit more to the tragic accident. "Scandalous" might be too strong a word, so questionable might better describe the events of that night. As the local and national media bring more details to light, the worse things look for UGA. While reserving comment on the accuracy or efficacy of the reporting, I DO fully expect things to get worse for UGA before they get better.

and this follow up statement as well.

quote:

I think I made it pretty clear that we were all sympathetic to the families of the deceased and UGA as a whole when this news broke last week.

But that's not really what this thread is about. This thread is about how UGA's head coach handles the next few weeks and months to navigate what started off as a tragedy (and still is for the families of the involved) but has morphed into something a little deeper and darker.

I personally don't think I've done any "trash talking" in this thread. The initial intent was speculation about how high up the ladder it goes and how Kirby handles it.

If you think otherwise, then that's your right to draw those conclusions as an adult. But I'll stand by my statements and motives. In fact, in my opinion, the most disrespectful thing we can do to the deceased is not get to the bottom of what happened so we can make sure it never happens again. Twenty and twenty four is to young to pass no matter what the circumstances.

Do you really think this is going to end the dominance of uga? Because that is the hope of OP and others.

No probably not, and I don't think its the hope of the OP. If you believe that OP is hoping a tragedy is how UGA falls its probably not worth discussing much with you because he was pretty upfront about how sad he thought the tragedy was.

I do think the events leading to the accident should be concerning to fans and coaches. How Kirby and the admin at UGA handle it is pretty important imo. This is an ugly situation.

It's really not DSJ and I'm sorry you feel that way.

The thing is a tragedy all the way around. From the lives lost and the injuries to the change in narrative around UGA's program. Ya'll should still be reveling in the joy of January 9th. Instead, because some young adults made a few poor decisions, we're talking about this.

I don’t think anyone remembers you stooping to this low level of sad little trolling about the death of 2 young adults, which means you have been influenced by the alter trolls in some way.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that if this happened to South Carolina’s program, you would not be starting any threads like this.

Come on, DJS, if I REALLY wanted to troll UGA on this, I wouldn't have gone out of my way to explain my position as thoroughly as I would like to think I have or changed the stuff I did in the original post. I apologize if some of you are having trouble with the difficult conversations that are ensuing after the fact. But two young people died and the circumstances around those deaths are still some what cloudy. There is no easy way to have the conversations and not think folks are trying to run down your program. Yet, they still need to be had. I know I'd also be defensive if the shoe was on the other foot.

Again, I'm sorry you think I'm trolling. My real interest here, as stated multiple times, is how a powerhouse CFB program like UGA responds to the incident. An individual's or organization's response to these sorts of things (from corporate, to sport, to politics) gives you tremendous insight to the person's or organization's character. I, and many others, are curious to see what that response is. What makes this incident particularly interesting, no matter what team you pull for, is it happened in the wake of UGA winning the championship. It's the nexus of a winning program vs a terrible tragedy. There is a story to be told here, and some of us want to see the next episode before it has been released.

If all those things make me a bad poster, then I'm a bad poster.

What I will say is I completely understand the response of UGA fans here.

Here you go OP:

quote:

Out of respect for the families involved, we have refrained from making any public statements up to this point regarding the circumstances of the tragic accident that claimed two lives and injured two members of our campus community. However, we want the public to know that the Athletic Department is conducting a thorough review, in coordination with appropriate legal counsel, to fully understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. We want to emphasize that these individuals were not engaged in Athletic Department duties around the time of this incident.

Our review is preliminary at this time, and the Athletic Department is fully cooperating with law enforcement officials to determine all the facts surrounding this tragedy. Coach Smart and I are also actively reviewing relevant football policies, and at the conclusion of that review, we will take steps to implement any improvements in our policies and procedures that may be needed.

Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the families and friends of all those impacted by this tragic event.”
