MSU's offense was beyond putrid in 2008. Woody McCorvey was a terrible OC. The AD, Greg Byrne, met with Croom after the 2008 season to discuss the direction of the football program. Byrne told him that McCorvey would have to go. Croom said no. Byrne told him that the options were McCorvey goes or Croom and McCorvey go. Croom chose the latter. Byrne hired Mullen.

10 years without another head coaching job proves that he got a much better deal than he deserved. Nice guy, awful coach.
