Not to mention that Millner rarely covered the #1 WR like Kirkpatrick did. He was abused by Alshon Jeffrey and Greg Childs, but any corner under 200lbs would be abused by those guys. They are huge.

The bama pass rush underachieved because Upshaw and Dareus were hurt and never 100% at the same time until the Auburn game.

Kirkpatric will probably be a 1st Rd pick next year.

Menzie has better cover skills though, but doesn't have the measurables that Dre has.

We do realize Dre was a sophomore last year.

I too watched the game and I have some questions:

CJ Mosely and Nico Johnson are going to split time at the LB spot next year? dont they play the same position and no one emerged as the starter?

Will Cyrus K (OT) redshirt?

How is Darrington Sentimore doing? I thought LSU made a huge mistake not signing this guy.

Did Eddie Lacy look a little slow to yall?

the best pass rusher bama has had recently was javier arenas. he was a missile.

and right now its Menzie>Kirkpatrick>Miliner. all are good and getting better. but dont forget about Jon Fulton, he is another guy who could end up being a first rounder. bama's cb's are better than any in the country. plus about 20 career interceptions from the returning safeties.

You are REALLY reaching with both of those statements.

I'll take LSU's CB 's over bama's any day. We may play a more relaxed defense, but we have a slew of better CB's.

i'm just guessing that during the last season you would have taken Drake Nevis over Marcel Dareus.

Kirk doesn't suck. Has he reached his potential yet? No, but he was a first year starter. He is still a quality SEC corner and will be a high round draft pick in 2012 or 2013. If he sucked, he would not be starting in our ridiculously talented secondary.

potential at the next level is a different thing

I think very highly of Dareus when it comes to potential... but IMO it is weird that he didn't dominate at the college level more than he did

Allot of people are mixing up milliner and dre. Swag got picked on a few times early in the season (mainly alshon against sc and childs against ark) but solid towards the end of the year.

Nope, just going off results on the field. We have two starters at CB that were named to preseason AA lists. What does that mean. Nothing, but Claiborne received plenty of attention last year and led the team in INT's. Mathieu was like a murphy's law to defenses. If something bad could happen to opposing offenses , he made sure it worked put that way.
For you to sit there and say that Fulton could be a first rounder without having seen him play much if at all tells me all I need to know. Any idea how many CB's are taken in the 1st round?

Now Menzies looks like the real deal, but right now your only chance for a first round DB is Barron. I think once he gets to the next level you will see just how average he was.

We go soft zone a lot. Cha is prefers a "bend but don't break" defense instead of the aggressive. . It's one reason why our defensive numbers will Never be as low as some.

Bama has several corners on the roster now that will eventually be 1st or 2nd rounders. Bama is the most talented team in the nation and DB and LB are the most talented positions on our roster. We are absolutely loaded with raw talent at DB.

I agree that Barron is overhyped and lacks the elite speed you look for in a 1st round safety. I think Barron is a 2nd rounder.

Played hurt most of his last 2 years. When at full health, he was beastly.

Yeah, he was really slow in all those slow motion replays of cuts and spinmoves breaking defenders ankles and pride. That kid is the real deal. Has maybe the prettiest spin move I've seen in a LOOOOONG time. And knows exactly when to use it.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Chavis is known for playing man to man no matter what. They play a lot of fronts that tend to make you play man to man.

Just because they don't send 8 every play doesn't mean they aren't aggressive. They definitely don't play "bend don't break".

Look I just thinks it's foolish to say anyone is a first rounder till they have earned it. Going off HS production is downright ignorant. What exactly have Fulton , Menzie, Dre, Lester, and milliner, proven thus far?? Absolutely nothing is the only answer. So RIGHT NOW your only 1st round DB possibility is Barron. IMO

Watch LSU games on 3rd down then get back to me. We give WR's ten yard cushions at the LOS.

Yes, I realize that star ratings don't guarantee success, but it is a good place to start when looking at raw talent (and we have a decent guy coaching these DB's as well).

Number of DB's on Bama's current roster that were Rivals 4 or 5 star players (does not include players no longer on the team or who changed positions:

5 stars: 3

4 stars: 9

That is a ton of talent to work with.

I do. It's not real hard to score some game film these days.

The only time you'll see the cushions you are talking about is if they are zone blitzing. It's rare that you see that cushion though. I would put it at less than 15%.
