Is Vince Dooley still alive?

I looked it up, he is! Praise be!

The last UGA football coach to win a national championship is about to be 90 years old.

Georgia actually has 3 pretty epic losses to Bama.
Some pretty epic games between Alabama and Georgia since Saban era.

2009 The Blackout

On September 27, 2008, #8 Alabama took on #3 Georgia at Sanford Stadium in Athens. With both teams as SEC & National Championship hopefuls, the stakes were high. Bulldog players dressed out in their black uniforms for only the third time in school history, and fans came dressed in all black for a ‘blackout’. One of Bama’s biggest plays of the game was the 31-yard pass from John Parker Wilson (#14) to Julio Jones (#8) to set the Tide up for their second TD. Bama gave Georgia their own ‘blackout,’ with a beating of 41-30.

2012 SEC Champ game

Amari Cooper's acrobatic catch over Georgia's Bacarri Rambo was one of the plays that lead to Alabama's victory in the 2012 SEC Championship Game. Final Bama 32-28. It earned the Tide the right to play for, and win, it's third BCS title in four seasons.

2015 The Washout

Jake Coker ran the offense to perfection, Derrick Henry's outstanding, Heisman-worthy performance during the rain-soaked game, the defense turned in a dominating performance, and No. 13 Alabama even got a touchdown from its special teams in a 38-10 rout of No. 8 Georgia.

"We've got to re-evaluate everything," coach Mark Richt said. "The quarterback play. Everything."

Jan. 8, 2018 - 2nd and 26.. The National Championship game w/backup QB Tua Tagovailoa.

Second & Twenty-Six is Alabama's incredible Championship Game victory over fellow SEC heavyweight Georgia! No. 4 Alabama beat No. 3 Georgia in OT 26-23.

Dec. 1, 2018 Bama beats Georgia 35-28 w/backup QB Jalen Hurts.

Eleven months after getting benched in the College Football Playoff Championship, Jalen Hurts came full circle: same city, same stadium, same opponent, off of the same bench. With faith, character and perseverance he had stayed with the team, prepared for this moment. He took full advantage of it.

Hurts entered the game with 11:15 left, Bama hurting 28-21. Then he stunned the college football world, leading a two-touchdown comeback that saved the Tide’s season, secured Alabama’s 27th SEC Championship, and sealed its spot in the CFP playoff.

Oct. 17, 2020 #3 Georgia travels to T-Town to play #2 Alabama

Georgia took a 24–17 lead with 0:23 left in the second quarter. From there, it was all Tide. Alabama kicker Will Reichard hit a 52-yard field goal as time expired to cut the lead to 24–20. Bama took the lead for good with four minutes left in the third quarter on a 90-yard touchdown strike from Jones to Jaylen Waddle. Final score, Bama 41-24.

Sure. Saban's 1st year, been in T-Town for 8 months. Took him a litte time to right the program.

Georgia beat Alabama Sept. 22, 2007, Saban’s first Alabama season.

quote:

When John Parker Wilson scrambled for a six-yard touchdown that allowed Alabama to tie the score with 1:09 remaining, the Crimson Tide had a chance to start the Saban era 4–0. But Alabama had to settle for a field goal in overtime, and future No. 1 overall draft pick Matthew Stafford hit Mikey Henderson down the left sideline on the Bulldogs’ first snap of overtime to cinch a 26–23 win.

I'd say the greatest loss in Florida Football history was when they finally canned Jim McElwain. And I'm sure the Florida shark population agrees.

All of these games, except 2015, are now considered victories in Florida logic since they were “close” and “showed progress.”
