Should be an 8 team playoff anyway. Power 5 conference champions, 1 Group of 5 team, and 2 at-large teams.

8 teams, conference champs +3, is what I'm guessing may eventual happen. But that wouldn't resolve what most folks are bitching about today. BAMA would still be in but instead of beating the #1 seed, we'd have beat a 9-4 PAC 10 champ 38-0. What would that prove?

Pass, until there is standardization in the conferences.

Yep, it would actually heighten the odds of SEC vs SEC in the N.C. game, and the left coast and rust belt folks “don’t like that none.”

What we're going to see is a move to 16 team super conferences if the playoff doesn't expand, which it likely won't.

8 team divisions, round robin. Then the conference championship game is a defacto playoff, then the actual playoffs.

We will see 8 teams. You want to know why? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I agree, mo money, but the UGA/OU game was so exciting and the outcome meant so much that we all want more of that. So do the networks. With more teams in the playoffs, even if it means at least 2 SEC teams every year, there's a greater probability of wars like the instant classic that was played last night.

That isn't what people are bitching about. At least one of the best four teams in the country sat on the outside for the sake of Alabama. Eight teams would resolve that, but only if it's done correctly. If not, it's just kicking shite down the road.

Alabama proved “they got it right” and would beat handily any of the teams on the outside you are referring to. The best football is played down here. Period. Get over it.

All other football divisions have more inclusive playoffs and they don't seem to be SJW fests.

It's going to go to 8, then 12 or 16 and hopefully settle in at 24.

That won't happen until it is all SEC teams in the playoffs. As that would prove they don't really give a crap about putting the best teams in the playoffs.

then get rid of the conference championship games, or don't take them into account altogether

Then don't take them into account. I'm not sure why people are so insistent that conference championships are cheapened by a winner not get BCS/playoff spots over a non-conference champion. Conference championships have been around since 1992. They clearly weren't designed to be valued for their role in the BCS/playoff. People just liked them, and if they helped decide exactly who was going to the Sugar/Rose/Cotton/etc, all the better. But there's nothing about the CCGs that implies they're inherently part of the national title race.

Getting throttled by Iowa doesn't a deserving team make! Try again Bucknut.

I think this year's SECCG begs to differ.

it really only makes sense to expand to at least include all conference champions

Actually it makes no sense at all. Using the 2017 season as a guideline here is what your 8 team playoff would look like:

UCF (AAC)
Clemson (ACC)
Oklahoma (Big 12)
Ohio St. (Big 10)
Toledo (MAC)
USC (Pac 12)
Georgia (SEC)
Notre Dame? (Ind.)

Does this look like the best 8 teams in America?

Do you believe that all conferences are equal in talent?

That's what your statement says.
