The won loss record is undeniable, but I don't think many would agree that Georgia hasn't performed differently against Bama than Tennessee during that period.

Even if Bama had to automatically play the best 2 teams from the East every year, they'd probably still beat them. But the outside chance of an upset would increase as attrition sets in, especially on the road against a "good" version of UGA, UF, or Tenn.
Bama never seems to play 3 tough opponents 3 weeks in row without a bye or cupcake. Next year they draw UGA, but it's sandwiched between two cupcake games.
If Tenn gets good again, there could be a year where they have to play them and 2 good West opponents in a 3-week span. Would be good for the conference.

Would you rather an LSU fan suspiciously ask about Tenn, or just be up front that the reason they hope the get good again is to give Bama a potential banana peel?
