As an LSU alum…I feel for you, Bud. We got hosed on the Plains on a “leaping” call that was subsequently changed in the off season.

That whole game was horrible officiating. That had to be a big 10 crew. Tenn got robbed.

Heupel helped a lot. He deserves a lot of criticism for this ending.

Yep, forward progress rules are a real problem this year and have cost some games.

Total screw job

Unfortunately for the Vols, the whistle doesn’t matter in this instance. That shouldn’t be your argument.

Stay on the topic of whether his progress was actually stopped or not.

Yeah. By their coach making two stupid calls in a row.

The officiating sucked but by no means did this game come down to that one play and one call. Tennessee fans need to be up in arms over why Heupel bombed it from the 40 on 3rd down rather than going for more manageable field goal positioning at the end of regulation. Dumbass decision.

Never should have been in OT. They completely mangled the last possession of the game.

If you are calling forward progress stopped that’s fine, but it’s at the whistle. The Ref may have meant to blow the whistle before he reached across the line, but it didn’t happen til after he stretched it out. Play doesn’t stop til the whistle blows and in this case the whistle blew after it was a TD

He's referring to the fact that the last time we got fricked like this in the Music City Bowl the NCAA changed the rules because the call was so egregious.

quote:

The game was notable for its ending, in which North Carolina rushed a field goal unit with too many players to the field in the final seconds of the game and spiked the ball to stop the clock at one second remaining by means of the ensuing penalty. This allowed the Tar Heels to make one more play and score a game-tying field goal; the team went on to win the game 30–27 in double overtime. The controversial ending resulted in an NCAA rule change for the following season, in which a 10-second runoff is assessed on clock-stopping penalties during the final minute of the game.

Of course, it did jack and shite to help us but we got a nice 'our bad' to go with the unwarranted L.

While the whistle can cause the ball to become dead, by rule, the ball is dead when the runner's forward motion is stopped. The whistle then signals that the ball is dead.
