Do you think someone has to rush the field to find happiness in life? It sounds as if you do.

If we are going to start punishing players, then they need to punish fans too. The players belong on the field. The fans do not.
And yet the schools allow the fans to go onto the field.

I am not defending the player. He should have just walked off the field. But if everyone decides to play in the street, don’t act surprised when someone gets hit by a car.
You kinda are defending the player. And nobody ran out into a street. They were walking and the player pushed them...hard. It's not like it was an accident. he did it purposely.

When a NFL fan runs onto the field of an NFL game, everyone cheers when security and/or a player annihilates them.

But when college fans do the same, we clutch our pearls.

Where was this energy a couple years ago when Bama boy sought out and punched a girl that was just walking by.
So, what do you think? Kick him off the team, or is that just for people going over the speed limit?

And just how in the hell do you propose to stop a few thousand people at once?
All you can do is get the heck out of the way.
The school will have to pay the fine, not the participants.

It will be interesting to see what the SEC will do. They keep stiffening the penalty and it keeps happening. It will be interesting to see if they really want it to stop like they say.

It doesn’t matter. It’s irrelevant. Your opinion on field storming has nothing to do with the fact that player is a Neanderthal idiot who should be charged with assault at minimum.
If your argument is that the fans should be charged, go ahead and let Bama do that & kill attendance.
Hell, charge the guy a trespassing fine. I’d pay it if it meant the player gets assault.
It is a very reasonable expectation to ask football players to follow laws against violence when exiting the field, the only exceptional circumstance being self defense.
Sit down.

How many times does it need to be said that thousands of drunk emotional fans don't belong on the field of play with angry athletes emotionally coming off a loss trying to get back to their locker room?
My guess is the only thing that finally stops it is a player getting seriously injured on the final play and medical staff unable to attend to him or unaware he is injured while he helplessly lays on the field with no ability to protect himself. Imagine a serious head/neck injury with a 10-15 min response delay and fans running into the player on the ground.
Get up in the face of a 300 pound athlete while trespassing into his space he has every right to be in and you might just get hurt.

It is weird. When some a-hole runs on the field at a NFL or MLB game everyone cheers when they get decleated.
But when the same thing happens at a college game everyone is outraged.
Again...if they had run out on the field during the game, he would have been cheered for doing that. This happened after the game. I'm amazed at how many people can't seem to make the distinction.
quote:The problem is with the players behavior, not with the schools.
It will take a massive lawsuit before the schools and the SEC find the stomach to address it.
quote:If something ugly happens then they will have no choice but to take action against the person who instigated the ugly behavior. Whatever happened to personal accountability? He is responsible for what he does. If he does something wrong, then hit him hard with sanctions and the message will get to the other players to keep their hands off the fans, unless the fans place their hands on the players first.
Eventually one of these is going to get ugly.
And everyone here will be “oh, how did that happen? Who could have seen that coming?”
I played a little football, and i can assure you, I was called worse names on the field than any fan ever called me. I was hit, punched, kicked, pinched and called all sorts of names. My momma was called names. They hear a whole lot worse from other players than anything he got on the field from a fan.

He needs to be arrested that is assault...
How? The athlete is on the field of play in a violent sport standing his ground where he has every right to be while trying to get to the locker room with a mob charging at him. The fan is breaking the law trespassing and invades the personal space of the athlete.

It’s encouraging to see normal rational people on SECr. Some days I doubt there are any here.
Blaming the fan here is such a terrible take.

It isn’t just my opinion that the SEC wants it to stop.

SEC Hopes Fines Stop Field-Storming Incidents and Injuries -10/7/23

LSU’s historic rivals just paid the Tigers $100,000. It’s the result of a new Southeastern Conference rule that seeks to stop fans from storming the field — and subsequent injuries.
Instead of remitting fines to the conference to support postgraduate scholarships, SEC schools will have to pay their opponent if their home fans rush out of the stands and onto the field. The recipient institution may use the money as they please.
Because storming the field often occurs after a team upsets its rival, the new rule means fans could be responsible for adding possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars to their opposition’s coffers.
Such incidents are occurring with more frequency.
LSU fans stormed the field twice in the 2022 season, first after a win over Ole Miss, whose fans returned the favor a week ago after beating LSU in Oxford. LSU’s second field rush last year came after an overtime win against Alabama. Both resulted in $250,000 fines. Prior to that, LSU fans had most recently charged from the stands in 2018 after defeating Georgia and in 2014 following a win against Ole Miss.
The celebrations come with more than just a financial cost.
The incidents, which usually originate in the student section, often require jumping over barriers. Since alcohol sales have been permitted in SEC stadiums since 2019, participants can be intoxicated, creating further hazards. In several cases, field storming has involved fans tearing down goal posts, which has resulted in the death of a fan in at least one incident.

If you're gonna rush the field, better keep your head on a swivel.
Those people are all technically guilty of trespassing and disorderly conduct. Of the people supposed to be there, only the Tennessee player had permission.
