The SEC needs to tell Vandy to upgrade that POS gig! They take the millions the rest of the conference teams and do nothing to their stadium. F um.

it's been delayed, however, due some protesting and lawsuits filed by the Fair board.

Well that and the fact that mayor Megan Barry was pushing it and then resigned after she got caught banging her Tennessee Highway Patrol bodyguard.

Did they create the position for him?

Vandy did not have an actual AD as Williams was something else and did the AD stuff

Yeah, that's my question. Williams was officially a "chancellor," which is more of an academic role than an athletic one. Our athletic department has had a different structure from other athletic departments lately. Not sure why, since we certainly had ADs in the past. And now we're hiring a guy apparently better known for his business acumen than his relationship to sports. Guess it makes sense, but it does speak to the mindset of the admins who seem to dislike the traditional athletic department set-up.

There's neither obligation nor expectation regarding pouring all the money back into strictly athletic expenses. The academic side gets bolstered too. The stadium is due for an upgrade, and that has been discussed, but it's hardly Legion Field-level bad.

Fit the "black" criteria? Besides being a racist, I bet you're one sharp cookie.

He's a smart hire. His background is what's needed to compete in Nashville facing professional sports, the University of UT and various other competitors for the entertainment dollar.

To others on the board, here's Turner's background:

Turner graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and earned joint J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from Harvard.

According to the Sports Business Journal, he turned down a six-figure paying job at Goldman Sachs to instead work in sports consulting. He has worked for two sports and entertainment consulting firms, OnSport and Wasserman Media Group.

Turner was named NBA G League president in 2014 and oversaw extensive growth, including the addition of 10 teams, expanded TV exposure and a lucrative deal with Gatorade to become the title sponsor of the league.

“I’ve had no problem creating revenue throughout my career, and I look forward to applying similar and new approaches with this new opportunity at Vanderbilt,” Turner said. “Given the breadth of my experience, yes, I’ve applied that within a professional sports context here over the past several years.

“But I think those buckets of accountability and responsibility in areas that fuel growth remain the same. It’s just within a college sports landscape (at Vanderbilt).”
