NBA G League President Malcolm Turner..

Interesting to say the least.

Hope plan #1 is blow up that crappy stadium we have and build something new.

Thought I saw a while back where Nashville was trying to get a MLS franchise and build a new 40k seat state of the art stadium that Vandy would also use? Whatever happened to that?

Did they create the position for him?

Vandy did not have an actual AD as Williams was something else and did the AD stuff

They got a franchise and are building a new stadium, yes. However, Vandy will not share. They will remain on campus in the ever so beautiful Vanderbilt Stadium

Hell, maybe this new AD can strike a deal with amazon and rename it Amazon Prime Field

Vanderbilt Stadium is very nice for how small it is. The only problem that I see with it is how close Memorial Gymnasium and the baseball field are to the east side stands.

If Amazon is putting just tech folks in Nashville odds are good they will be Indian so perhaps they will have a cricket team soon.

It was considered but there was a lot of backlash. An SEC school, even Vandy, shouldn't have an off campus stadium shared with an MLS team. Additionally, attendance already struggles, and moving the stadium 2 miles off campus would not help with that.

That was a nice way of saying Corbin wasn't leaving. idk why they went through that much trouble.

I loved Stokley and Memorial too but you don't play there anymore

Barnhill was a dump but had more flair than Bud Walton

Old CheckerDome in STL had way more character then the places now.

Nothing although I don't remember reading Vandy would use the stadium. But the MLS stuff is happening. it's been delayed, however, due some protesting and lawsuits filed by the Fair board.

Quoting a response from a poster on another board, who says it better than I could:

quote:

What Vanderbilt needed in its next AD was someone who understands that modern college athletics is about money, branding, and media reach. They also needed someone who can raise money to fund the renovation/rebuild of Dudley and the other athletic facilities, as well as attracting more money to enable more coaches to be hired. From that perspective Turner looks like an amazing hire, and I’m a little shocked we got him. Perhaps it won’t work out in terms of Turner being able to raise money and to raise Vanderbilt’s national and international profile through athletic success. But judging from his resume and background he is a no-brainer. Congrats to the admin and the board for landing him.

What he lacks in college experience he makes up in the areas noted above.
