I can't imagine going to Olsen Field and watching a game be played on anything but grass. Baseball just shouldn't be played on anything else IMO.

Many people had those same opinions about playing football on synthetic turf, now a lot of teams have it for a playing surface

the weather in nashville isn't anything like college station and college baseball starts very early. the post about saving school ball is correct. i have been to the vandy/lsu game at vandy and they had to use torches to thaw out the field before the game could begin.

It looks like a little league park.

The netting everywhere is weird to, are there any other SEC ballparks with netting all the way down lines?

Auburn. Mainly due to the proximity of the seats to the field.

Watching FSU today reminded me of how bad I hated it.

If Mizzou can have one of the best grass surfaces in the country every year, Vandy has no excuses.

According to Corbin, having the turf field this year prevented 7 rain outs. The players would have also had to tarp the field 55 times during the year. I think the value of it was proven within its first year of use. Plus, I'd say how fast the ball plays in the infield is beneficial to Vandy's small ball strategy (not that any of it matters anymore this season).

Cracks me up, all the folks with the above attitude when they're talking about a game played with aluminum bats and the designated hitter rule...

This is true. For a real baseball fan who loves the game, aluminum bats and designated hitters are an abomination.

ETA: Unless you're an American League fan.
