A conference comprised of schools from a single state would not survive in the TV era.
SMU getting the death penalty and TAMU’s TV ban in 1994 finally killed the SWC.

Back in the days of the SWC, Utx wanted to be the big fish in the small pond. They could have been Charter SEC but they wanted an imbalanced sandbox. Rebs and Tigers were too smart to accept the SWC invite when it formed.
