thought about this earlier, and it's pretty obvious why this is happening. Most, if not all, programs are being heavily subsidized by the general fund. It's not publicly known about big schools doing it, but it's 100% happening and the allocations are simply being hidden. Athletic programs expenses have gone hyperbolic, from coaching contracts to NIL to facilities, etc. Regents/Trustees/Presidents/AD's can no longer control what's happening. Coaches are getting paid $100 million and phoning it in. Players are getting guaranteed NIL deals and then opting out.

All of this is true

Private equity? Billions in tv deals? Millions for salaries? Millions for player deals?

It’s BALL. It’s a fricking game. We like the game! It’s fun to watch and root for your team. But it’s a game.

A game associated with education.

We’ve lost it. Is this late stage capitalism? Is this the end game for our society?

It’s a game.

Was fun while it lasted. NFL is a sterile sports product. Shame, college football is heading down same path.

Agreed. I care a little less with every season. Hoping to reach the point that my Saturdays open up in the fall. Much better things to do than caring about a game with players who have no loyalty to the school. They’re only loyal to who writes the biggest check.
I quit watching the NFL about 10 years ago and haven’t missed it one bit and I doubt I’ll miss college football.
