This is where you young people need to learn about college football history.
Back in 1942, the AP was merely one of many NCAA-sanctioned polls and it was not even the most important one back then (it had only been in existence for 6 years).
Georgia was the overwhelming choice (consensus) of the majority of polls taken at that time. UGA has EVERY right to claim 1942. Ohio State didn't even go to a bowl game that year; UGA did go to the ROSE BOWL and defeated UCLA, 9-0.

Has there been a rematch of conference opponents in a major bowl since the 1978 Orange Bowl? I know that we had LSU vs Bama in the BCS Champ in New Orleans, but at that point it was the dedicated NC Game.

Alabama is one of only a few teams that had all of its National Title winning teams play in bowls.
Any team that won the national title after 1975 played in a bowl, but before that we had many National Title winners not end their season in a bowl.

You are a great poster, Oklahomey. Bias of any sort does not seem to impede your reasoning and that is a quality that is lacking among most people posting today. Furthermore, you seem thoroughly researched in all your facts.
I know you've stated that you don't do much analysis of any NC claims before the poll era and that is understandable.
But, if you were to comment on pre-poll era NC claims, can you tell the board why Bama should be NC's in '25 and '26 after a win over Washington and a tie of Stanford in two successive Rose Bowl games.
If not, which teams have a better claim and why? Also, was the Rose Bowl game, during that time period, considered the de facto determination of who was or wasn't the best or not?
