This guy was bipolar, so I was very concerned he might do it - that's why I just took him straight to the hospital. His family was pretty useless. I was really mad to find out it was just a way to manipulate me.

In NYC suicide is like a $2,000 fine. Not sure who exactly they bill.

Most people wouldn't have done that. It probably was just to manipulate you, but you never know. Good call.

I'm a libertarian at heart, but most of the time those who contemplate/commit suicide are those that aren't "themselves" at that monent. They are in a mental or emotional whirlwind that doesn't allow them to make the kind of decisions they would normally make; or it could be unbalanced chemicals in the brain or depression, which are medical issues that can be treated with proper support and guidance.

So while I think we all should be able to choose to do what we want with our own bodies, I believe its ok (if not imperarive) for the state to step in and save those who may not have the capacity to make a rational decision for themselves at the moment.

Is there some kind of plan for an inflatable or to go up and get him down? I have only seen suggestions.

I can see that side of the argument that they aren't themselves so the state stepping in isn't a bad thing.

Yeah supporting free choice is one thing.

Being a compassionate human being is another thing.

Semo, my on again off again and currently ex-girlfriend has recently been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I was with her for 3 years and knew something was wrong with her.. Seeing someone you love go through mental and emotional swings that they can't control has really opened my eyes to some things.

In china poor farmers and their families will go work in huge factories to make money for their family and will actually live in the structures they work at. It is so terrible that a lot of them jump from the structure. Instead of making working conditions better the company just installed giant nets to catch their bodies.

Unless she's on lithium or another med to prevent her mood swings, run.
