yeah, it happens everywhere. I remember my gf called me one day and asked me if I knew who a kid was. And I was like, um, yeah. He's only a 5 star and one of our highest recruits. and she's like, well, his grades just improved a whole bunch.
I replied "Thanks baby."

He lobbied hard but never got on the GSB. Some of the threads surrounding all that were entertaining. And then on another board he left a few parting shots for some GSB posters.
