This is why I have never understood Saban's argument that P5 teams should only play each other, but he won't start scheduling a tough non conference unless everyone else does. UGA is already playing 2 P5 non conference games a year. Clemson also plays 2. USC plays a 9 game conference schedule plus has Texas and ND on the schedule this year. I completely agree with Saban that the P5 should only play each other and the SEC should play 9 conference games, but hell, lead by example and schedule 2 solid non conference games a year. We have no excuse with our talent level not to. Our one premiere 2019 non conference game is Duke in 2019. WTF.

If I had my way we'd play 3 tomato cans every year and I have no shame in admitting it. We have 8 SEC games plus our annual P5 OOC game with tech. So we only have 3 spots left that we can pick and choose.

1) The goal is to win as many games as you can. If we were in the AAC or something I may think differently, but the SEC is hard enough as it is, so in order to accomplish goal #1 (see above, win as much as possible) it doesn't make sense to make that HARDER on yourself than you have to. You should want to make things as easy as you can. Look at UF for instance, they won 3 national titles within a 12 year span without playing anyone with barely a beating heart OOC (besides their annual in-state OOC team that is built in). Nobody is going to look back at their title trophies and be like "oh yeah! Well they played NMSU out of conference!"

2) For UGA in particular, we haven't gone undefeated in regular season SEC play since 1982. That's 35 years with having at least 1 loss in the regular season...EVERY YEAR. So I'd love to hear someone enlighten me on how adding another difficult game we could potentially lose HELPS us with point #1 (win as many games as possible), considering the odds are very likely we will already have at least 1 loss in the regular season in the SEC

I understand your opinion, but wholeheartedly disagree

1 loss in today's game won't keep us out of the CFP, not with the reputation we are building (that may be unfair, but it is true)

I'd rather have the home and home series with the Norte Dame's of the world and see great games and make great trips than schedule in a way to ensure more wins

Doubt we will ever see eye to eye on this...

Anyway, we have Vandy and Kentucky every year, which lightens our load

GA Tech is a great game for us, and keeps a respectable P5 game OOC on the shed, but we SHOULD win that game most years - we outclassed them more often than not on talent and resources

If we were in the west, I would probably agree with you

But we aren't and we should have an extra P5 game most years (which we do)

I'd love to see more SEC teams leave the south, scrap this neutral site crap, and schedule more home and home's.

Props to Georgia. And when I think about it, when is the last time Florida has ever traveled across the Mississippi or north of north of Georgia?

Sooooo to recap, in these 6 kickoff classic games, only 2 of them were actually worth a damn, 09 vt and '16 sc. Which is basically what I said, that the teams yall play in these games aren't nearly as good as they're supposed to be.

That’s your opinion. But 4 of them were ranked at the end of the year. 2008 Clemson, 2013 Virginia Tech, and 2014 West Virginia were not.

In 2010 Alabama played a meh Penn State team. In 2011 Bama played a 9-4 Penn State team that is arguably a 10-11 win team if the Sandusky/Paterno scandal hadn’t happened in the middle of that season, however they did go “just” 9-4 and were not ranked.

It’s not like Alabama has had some monster OOC schedule, but it’s certainly up been up to par.

But are kickoff classic teams chosen by the schools? Don't believe so.

Don't forget the Swamprats never leave Fl. unless it's an SEC game.

Glad AU is getting away from the kickoff games and going to home and home OOC after 2020. Also glad that the way the home and home are scheduled the big OOC game will be in Auburn on even numbered years when AU has to play UA and UGA on the road.

Also, good for both schools although it would be a great home and home had they gone that route.
