Their dates have been known fo r a while so those fans had nothing to worry about with flights and hotels.
It's the football fans (not just UGA mind you, Texas fans too) that are getting fricked since the F1 people had such a head start.
I'm having to fly to San Antonio and rent a car just due to the outrageous flights RT to Austin. Hotels are a "yeah right" as well and I'm gonna have to get an Airbnb instad and split it with friends.

Unlike many college towns that depend on & welcome home football games for the revenue it brings, the city of Austin does prioritize other events (ACL, F1, South by Southwest, etc.).

That doesn't change the fact that fans traveling in for the game are getting fricked considering another event expecting 300k people has already been making plans for flights and hotels. It has absolutely nothing to do with Austin being able to handle or not handle the crowd (obviously they can with no sweat) and everything to do with increased rates on lodging and transportation due to demand and scarcity.

Austin is a dump. Be safe.

Good call. Definitely don’t want to miss the semifinal game.

Yep, but that’s the usual. The city plans are years in advance & UT football has to fit their home games in, not the other way around. That’s been the case for a while.

Honest question - how often has Austin had an F1 race on a home game weekend against a non-cupcake? This isn't a gotcha, genuinely curious.
Eta: your post is again geared towards the city of Austin itself which is not the point of the issue. The issue is with flights from Atlanta to Austin that weekend being double the cost - that has nothing to do with Austin planning ahead.

2017 comes to mind. We were hosting Okie State. And, yes, the city gives zero fricks if football fans have to pay more. ACL over two weekends in Oct & F1 in Nov is the crowd and tax revenue they prefer.

F1 does what it does. A few years back, we had a UT football game, 3 day ACL (Austin City Limits) Music Festival, AND Formula 1 the same weekend. Busy….to say the least. No biggie.

The 80 people who move here each and every day would beg to disagree. Just voted the third best college town in America.

Thanks to you and the other guy above for the recommendations. Where is the best breakfast place in Temple?

Texas v. Georgia was announced ~ 2 months ago, by the SEC. The date for the game was released earlier this month, by the SEC. Perhaps the SEC should consider “big time” events in Austin are different than most SEC towns.
Or… the SEC leadership does everything all expense paid, so piggy backing F1 & Football may have been intentional.

You mean the rich far left fricks from California that have completely ruined Austin?
