As far as the stadium experience goes, it's really no different than VHS.
The in-game experience at Davis Wade is now better than Ole Miss'. State has definitely improved its atmosphere the past few years--the higher number of cowbells, the big video board, and an awesome sound system have made a big difference. Ole Miss' will be helped with a new sound system on the way.
Winning is probably the biggest variable, though. For both State and Ole Miss (and probably everyone else), so much depends on a winning or losing season. A winning OM team would have a better in-game atmosphere than a losing State team, and vice versa.
But to me, given equivalent seasons, State has always had a little better in-game atmosphere. Just seems like we're a little louder (must be the rednecks and the cowbells). Several times during Ole Miss games you'll get polite applause instead of yelling (or ringing).

It's Bleacher Report, but it's a real writer, not some flunky SEC fan making this 2010 list of louder stadiums: LINK
1. LSU
2. Florida
9. Tennessee
19. Mississippi State
20. Auburn
21. Georgia
23. Alabama
24. South Carolina
30. Arkansas

DWS kicks VHS's arse. It's not even close. I agree it is loudest per capita. You never hear people talk about VHS being a tough place to play. DWS, however, is a different story. Hate on it all you want, but besides Autzen, it's the loudest in the country to be that size. You can't tell me that if it was as big as BDS, JH, or Death Valley, that it wouldn't be similar or louder in noise. And the last two home games last year, it was louder when the bells were not ringing. The new bell rule makes our fans yell mroe.

That stupid list, no matter who wrote it, is very befitting of Bleacher Report.

It's about an 85,000 seat stadium if it was numbered correctly.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say 90,000+.
The problem with Neyland is two fold; not only is the seating small in width, but the walkways between the seats are very narrow.
So you not only have someone's knees in your back the whole game, but your knees are in the back of the person in front of you.

Plus, the outside looks like an erector set.
At least it did the last time I was there, I don't know if they've fixed it.

I've been to an LSU game where it really didn't get LOUD even once. Hell in that troy game
The answer as to why it didn't get that loud is in your statement.

Fixing that now..
Will be one of the nicest-looking stadiums in the country when finished.

I was referencing 2 different games. And of course I know it wouldn't be loud for Troy, that's my point. No stadium is going to be loud for every game. CLT was saying Sanford is no higher than 8th (
