Wow, you couldn't have fricked that up any more than you did. Cecil did nothing wrong under the rules at the time. They changed the rule AFTER this case.

The IRS criminal investigation unit not the FBI investigates Tax Evasion. so that is fake news. FBI and Secret Service investigate money laundering/fraud. So if the FBI was investigating money laundering through the church they would probably need more than one rumor and for more than 180k. FBI ain't got time for 180k rumor of laundered money... That would also require illegal enterprises. Giving money to someone ain't illegal. Any booster in the country could cut a check to a recruit for a million dollars and it would not be against the law. Just violate NCAA rules

ATPB revealed more than just the Cam deal. Auburn has an organized cheating plan. And, are damn good at it.
You realize that the source for all of the "facts" on ATPB was Scott Moore and Redfish Barger. One is a wife beater who has spent time in the Birmingham jail and the other was a two bite OL who hates Auburn. Both thought it would take down Auburn and make a name for themselves. Not too reliable sources.

FBI was looking into Milton McGegor as well as Colonial Bank
was that ever proven to be true? I thought the whole FBI involvement thing was just a rumor.
Of course it was, here's the link...

I think one of the problems for the NCAA and the SEC was how fast all this happened. I'm not sure anyone expected Cam Newton to be as good as he was. ATPB revealed more than just the Cam deal. Auburn has an organized cheating plan. And, are damn good at it.
In my opinion, when Cecil admitted he was shopping Cam, whether he received payment or not, under the rules, Cam should have been ruled ineligible.
By the time all the evidence surfaced, Auburn was competing for the championship and Cam was the front runner for the Heisman. At that point, they decided to change the rules.
Why? It would have completely changed the end of that season. The timing was bad.
You lost credibility when you suggested ATPB proved something.
FYI...Cam was ruled ineligible then reinstated just like countless other players who have minor issues. The speed of his reinstatement was negotiated. Historically speaking there is no precedent for missing games based on someone shopping you to another school without your knowledge.

Technically I don't believe the NCAA ruled him ineligible. I believe AU did, forcing the NCAA hand to rule him eligible by the way the rules were written. It has been a while, so I can't remember exactly.

I believe this is correct. That is what I meant by negotiated.

Paying a College Recruit to sign to a school is a Federal Crime
Please name the statute on this because I cannot find it. I'm not sure that is the case. Think of it without the sports aspect involved. If Jimmy Rane liked something I was doing and I wanted to go to college and he and Auburn were interested in me going there for Engineering and I said, "well, make me a deal." and Rane gives me money on top of paying for my tuition, he can do it. Stuff like that happens all the time in some form.

It was intended as a compliment.

You are correct. Paying players us not a crime. Against NCAA rules, yes. Crime? No.

Well, rigging gambling machines and ATM's for certain people would be a crime. It just so happened it was rumored to be AU players. Thus FBI entered into investigation.

It started in the Albert means case where they were going to charge Lang with: Lang faces a nine-count federal indictment alleging conspiracy, racketeering and extortion, which could result in a maximum of 135 years behind bars.

Even that part of your BS rant isn't true.
MSU posters approached Cecil with an offer if he could deliver Cam. He never "shopped", and he never talked to any other school.

I assume you meant msu boosters...but this is a part of it that always gets left out. Clearly, ole Dan realized with Cam he could make a run at ATL. They went all in and got burned. Sour grapes. Thankfully Cam connected with Auburn and Gus.

Report: Cam Newton And Father Admit To “Pay-For-Play” Scandal
ESPN.com reported that both Newton and his father, Cecil, told Mississippi State recruiters in separate phone calls about what sounded like a pay-for-play scheme. The details, including Newton telling one of them that his father selected Auburn for him because “the money was too much,”
