I always love the arguing over rankings like these.

It is not so important to be #1 or #6. It is more important to know the "spread" between any two.

If to were to take the 5 greatest players of all time. It would be no shame to be rated #5.

None of these qbs is head and shoulders above. Mallet is the most natural selection for #1. The rest are grouped fairly closely behind and with one another.

Does anyone actually believe they are going to get a BAMA FAN, to concede that another QB in this league is better than McElroy? Honestly, REALLY!?!?!

I was under the assumption that there are SOME Bama fans that use reason and logic and are realistic when it comes to football.

Guess I was wrong.

I will concede that Mallett is a better passer than McElroy, but NOT a better QB.

Can another QB throw the ball further? more acurately? Sure they can. McElroy is fine in those categories though, and there's no one I'd rather have making decisions on the field for our team. I'll say it again: "He has never.... lost." The guy is a winner. He wins. Period.

How many first year starting QBs have won the NC? Can't be many. He has "led" the team too. He calls audibles at the line. He checks down (something JPW never did) and he makes the right decisions.

I understand that he has never lost, but he has also been on some VERY talented teams in both HS and at Bama.

My question is, how good would McElroy be if he was the starting QB for Arkansas, Ole Miss, or Mississippi State instead of Bama???

He would have improved us last year. His game management would have helped us tremendously

Point proven...There are less than a handful of Bama fans that can look at any situation objectively...you can never take off the crimson glasses...you admit that there are QBs that can pass further and more accurately...yet they aren't better QBs? Bama didn't go 14-0 because of McElroy...actually from several games I actually watched they went 14-0 in spite of him...they guy is surround by talent...any QB that can hand the ball off 3-4 plays has a good shot a winning some games...I personally am not trying to take anything away from the kid...but lets face...he is in a good situation...he isn't very talented at all...he just isn't a complete idiot...

No he isn't. You don't "get it". You'd rather have Joe Montana and a 5-5 team, than McElroy and an undefeated one. You... are the idiot.

NO! you don't get it...no one said they would rather have Montana and a 5-5 record...rather than MCElroy and go undefeated...what people are saying is that there are QB's in this league that would have made Bama a BETTER team...statistically speaking...

McElroy won't ever "get you beat". That's a big deal when the rest of your team is strong. JPW "got us beat" many times during his time as QB, doing stupid things.

Snead got us beat last year in a couple of games.

That's why I say he would have been better for Ole Miss than any other QB.

You guys don't realize there is more to playing Quarterback than throwing it 40 times a game. Did any of you play football? The QB is a leader by default, a coach on the field. I would dare say there isn't a better leader/manager than Greg McElroy in the SEC. From checkdowns to pep talks...he is unsurpassed. Oh, and he's not too shabby of a passer either.

Joe Montana (or any other stud QB) could take a 5-5 team and turn them into an undefeated one, Greg McElroy would take a 5-5 team and turn them into...

a 5-5 team.

So when the great Greg McElroy goes to the NFL, will you think back on the glory days? When he would just hand the ball off with such reckless abandon, or when the game was close, and he would hand the ball off with that famous surgical precision that only Greg McElroy possessed.

17-24 for 291 yards and 3 TDs. That was McElroy's stat line for the Arkansas game last season. He kicked ya'lls asses up and down the field.
