The yells are whack....for some reason Aggies thinks this makes them intimidating but, IN REALITY, its a bunch of organized non sense. Nobody trembles in fear when they do a yell. Intimidation is created through chaos.

I agree. In football loud thunderous noise is intimidating. It makes it hard to communicate or even think.

In basketball it is a bit different. You have the noise factor which is the same but the Duke fans (going back at least to the early ‘90s) have perfected the synchronized movements behind the basket on free throws. I am not sure how effective it is but it is certainly more disruptive than the white noise of everyone waving at random.

Agreed. The yell leader used to play a roll in getting the 12th going on que. These new generation of spinners, chorus line looking MF are embarrassing. Of course today yell leaders are competing with piped in rap music and the Jumbotron

…they remind me of that scene in Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Cringed the entire scene. But, I bleed maroon so I; closed my eyes until it was over. …kinda like the Bama game last year.

Truth be told, I like unique college traditions. I have many A&M friends and work colleagues who are A&M alum. I’ve been to >10 A&M games and a spring game at Kyle, and beyond (1999 Sugar Bowl vs Ohio State, 2009 vs Arkansas in Arlington).

Love 12th man, kissing your girl after a score, Aggie band is sharp, fish camp, and the cannon.

The yell leaders, though. I tried to appreciate this one. Conceptually. I really did. But I just can’t. At all. I actually cringe when I see them.
I know “either you are an Aggie or you just don’t understand” (or some such), but are all Aggies ALL IN for the yell leader tradition?

The “out scored” (no use of word “lose”), as in the Aggies we’re outscored tonight (dare not admit loss), not your best work either.

Overall, impressed by your unique traditions.

Truth be told...if you were an Aggie (or had been to enough games and watched long enough) you would know that the Yell leaders are there to lead the crowd in yells. Not cheers. Not claps. All out freaking yelling.

While this is strange, I agree, It’s also extremely effective at impacting communication of the other teams offense.
When they do it right (and many times they don’t) good yell leaders can impact the game itself as if they were....wait for it....

“the 12th man” on the field.

There is a point and they ain’t going anywhere. Pray they stay ineffective. Ask Nebraska how effective the 12th man can be when they have the crowd yelling and not watching their phones.

They aren’t effective when coordinating yells, they are most effective when coordinating wildcats. These are “screams” that each class does continuously on que.

And yes, having someone on the field hearing and seeing what’s going on and instructioning 100k people to scream continuously on que at the top of their lungs is effective when they actually do it.

However, new army doesn’t do it enough because it’s interrupted with Jumbotron advertising. But when they have a must win game and it’s close and winnable you can bet it will be deafening. Will it impact the other team? Usually it does. Especially during night games.
