If racist white people switched to GOP, the southern states with less transplants should have flipped to GOP first.
In fact, Nixon in 1968 won southern states with more transplants and the racist Dixiecrat and former Democrat George Wallace won the deep South states with less transplants.
Another problem with the 'Big Switch' theory is Nixon was for civil rights. Liberals try to say Nixon used a racist strategy to win states in the south.
If Robert Byrd, liberal Democratic senator of West Virginia for decades didn't switch to GOP, it doesn't make sense to believe most white racists switched. Byrd filibustered the Civil RIghts ACt and he was in the KKK at one point. He was at one of the highest levels in the KKK, a Grand Wizard or Kleagle or whatever they call it.
Obama and the CLintons praised Byrd when he died as a great leader. lol

Politics mainly. Columbia being the Capitol of the state had USC under a microscope forever and to many hands in the bowl. You had all of these politicians that would get their nephews or neighbors sons on the football team however they could. Same with hiring of coaches.
We didnt get the politicians out of the mix until mid Holtz era when he would flat out call them out on their bullshite and they finally left USC sports alone for the most part.
Now Clemson being so f ase away from headquarters could do as they pleased and not be under a microscope. Clemson had a little brother complex and it was their mission from the get go to beat the uppity Gamecocks no matter the cost. No matter if they had to cheat to do it. I respect the way they operated fgf or so long. Back in the 1970s USC put a beatdown on them something like 58-21. The Clemson administration flat out said that will not and better not happen again. From that point on they started buying recruits and less than 7 years later they were close to getting the NCAA death penalty.
In a nutshell this is what has kept USC behind

I think the main reason is Columbia wasn't that all appealing until they revitalized the Vista in the 2000s. It is still kind of rough looking.
Clemson's location next to a lake near the Blue Ridge mountains gives it a unique vibe which I think helps in recruiting. Being closer to ATL also helps.

They don't either. lol
I can respect somebody who is sincere about having a problem with Tillman Hall's name especially a black person.
If a person just talkig about it because they hate Clemson's football success, that's phony af.

y grandfather, who was a big Carolina fan, used to claim it was because the politicians in Columbia interfered to much. He was a notorious story teller however so that may not be true.
He was absolutely right

dont gimme that bull shite.
They're all mostly crappy college towns. You're telling me people pick Tuscaloosa and Auburn because they're amazing locations? NO it's a college town. Just like Cola and Clemson are.
if it was really about location, Vandy would be pulling in recruits left and right.
We fricked up big time and you guys had better coaching staffs.

i don't see how Nashville would be that big of a draw unless you are a country music fan.
Vandy's location within Nashville isn't ideal either.
None of those other college towns are next to a lake or near the Blue Ridge.

This is probably the biggest joke post in the whole thread.

How's that, King of the Hill?
There are a lot of large universities located in urban areas.
Clemson offers a more unique experience even compared to other small college towns.

Not really. Lots of college campuses have lakes.

Actually, not many do.
I think Washington, Wisconsin, and Northwestern would be the major ones. Obviously Clemson has weather advantage over them, and only Washington of those 3 is near the mountains.

If one wants a "Unique" experience, my Alma mater offers the most "Unique" experience in the state bar none....

i don't think subjecting yourself to hazing and pointless drills is the experience most football players are looking for....
lol
Ben Pitchfork Tillman used to mock the Citadel and wanted to turn it into a women's college.
He called The Citadel .a "military dude factory". lol

Was that before or after he murdered black people?
Posted on 6/19/18 at 3:52 pm to GetCocky11
there isn't any evidence that he killed black people.
He was at this conflict near Augusta but I don't think there is evidence he did the killing.
He claimed he did but that might have been just pandering to white racists.

What do you think high school football players are actually looking for in a school? Because swimming in a lake or hiking the blue ridge or even just looking at pretty scenery is fairly low on the totem pole for most if not all. I promise you Clemson’s recent success has NOTHING to do with its proximity to a lake or mountain range.
