There was an article in the New York Times about how Auburn was always the blue collar school in the state of Alabama and Alabama was traditionally where the doctors and lawyers went. It's got one of the best MFA (Masters in Fine Arts to all of the Aubies), and it's well established as the flagship university.
I don't understand why Auburn rests its superiority so heavily on the fans that didn't actually go to Alabama.

Auburn doesn't have a law school, no wonder there aren't any law students there.
Do you realize how many Auburn undergrads go to Bama for in-state tuition @ law school? The same with Bama fans going to vet or engineering school at Auburn?

I hope so. I am just worried that no SEC team can keep up with the fast break pace Oregon plays. They run a play every 18 seconds. Those big SEC players that normally would be a advantage very may well be gasping for air and sucking wind playing Oregon. One play every 18 seconds. THATS pretty impressive.

It's because all of the rednecks who never graduated from high school (which is a large % of the state) are seemingly natural U of Alabama fans. When you have those kind of fans, whether or not they actually attended or contributed to the university, that's the reputation the entire fanbase gets.

Alabama haas a hell of an engineering school. Sorry, not much reason to go somewhere else in state for that.

Wow, summed up perfectly. I would google "Bama fans rednecks" and post a picture but its too easy if google brings it up for me before I can finish typing the phrase.

You must not get below Montgomery much.

I don't.. I think it's a monumentally stupid putdown (when they are being serious). I have friends who haven't graduated from college who do extremely well and who i'd much rather spend time with than the emotionally stunted MD who enjoys masturbation more than sex.

Wow. It is really pathetic that you honestly believe that about Alabama fans

In all seriousness about the SEC..... my job takes me to many different places around the country. I can say many other non-SEC fans are very jealous and intimidated by the SEC. I hope the SEC continues its dominance over the entire country with Auburn beating Oregon. I think it will be a blow-out.

Well if you were a redneck, who hadn't finished high school, why would you pick the inferior team to root for?
No one can choose who likes them, but Auburn fans calling Alabama fans out for being rednecks is about as rich as Bill Clinton calling Eliot Spitzer a cheater.

Yep but some AU fans LOVE this little talking point and feel that it in some stupid way proves their university is superior.
It's stupid and elitist and snobby.
And I could post picture after picture that proves them wrong.
Like this one-
Wonder what fraternity he pledged at Auburn. What did he major in at Auburn? I'm going to go ahead and eliminate "Fashion Merchandising".
