I was reading an article where a ref kicked the ball letting Florida sub.
Nobody seemed to know what happened & if that was allowed.
Anybody have input?

Ref accidentally knocked the ball out of place with his foot, right as Tennessee was about to line up and go for it on 4th and 1. They had to stop play to re-set the ball, killing Tennessee's hurry-up timing. While they did this, Florida subbed in some rested defensive players. Florida then made a stop and got the ball back. Herbstreit cried.

How does that answer the sub question?

Official kicked the ball as he was running back into position after setting the ball. Umpire saw it, and came in to reset it. This gave UF a couple of seconds to sub. Which they did. They took a chance on having too many men on the field but they made it. They didn’t stop play to let Florida sub.

But was the subbing legal?

Per the article, Fl. could have subbed IF Tn. subbed.

See the statement I posed in the other post...about "IF Tn. subbed".

Pretty sure you can sub as long as you don't have too many men on the field when ball is snapped. I might be wrong.

Anybody see Tennessee act like thugs after the game. Right on time.

The defense can always sub but if the offense doesn't sub, they can snap it on ready to play and catchthem with too manymen on the field. If the offense does sub, then the defense is given time to akso sub prior to ready to play.

UF did a good job of subbing in a hurry last night. Got caught a coupla times for too many men on field, but theres no rule against subbing on any play as long as you only have 11 on field at the snap...

Long story short: ref derped and kicked the ball, UF's D took advantage of the delay by subbing. Good heads-up play by the UF d-coordinator, imho.

Thats true, but it doesnt mean that its the ONLY time Florida can sub. If UT subs then the refs HAVE to let Florida sub.
Florida can sub whenever they want, but they run the risk of being out of position or having too many men on the field. The resetting of the ball allowed them a few extra secondes to attempt it, which they did successfully.
Why are we having to explain basic rules of football?

Because Herbstreit acted like a baby pretending like some huge injustice had been done to Tennessee without knowing what actually happened.

UF didn’t do anything wrong, or the refs.. Milton could’ve got up to the line and snapped the ball causing a flag( too many men on the field), but instead he was getting the play in from the sideline. Even Heupel was yelling “snap the ball!”.. But they didn’t take advantage!

But 30 seconds later they showed it and explained it on air...
