I can sorta agree with this, so long as you're returning the nucleus. Bama was so close in so many games in 07 and put it together last year. Same definately could happen for Ole Miss this year.

the thing about last years match up was Ole Miss secondary was totally over matched by JPW and their receivers which was the difference in the game. Other than that I thought OM was more physcial in the LOS, and had a slightly better running game and run defense. What was Bama's longest run and what was OM's? Nutt vs Saban a game could come down to that.

Arky was bad and you beat them by 2

They were pumped for the game and we were coming off of two straight losses.
We were up 23-14 with just a minute and a half left on the clock.
They scored a td against prevent.

Auburn was bad and you beat them by 10 at home

They only crossed the 50 yardline twice in that game.
Jevan couldn't hit the broad side of the "barn". We won that game in spite of him.

LSU went 3-5 in the SEC.

4 of those losses were to the 4 best teams in the SEC. They were the fifth best team. They took the "best team in the west to OT"

Miss St Stinks.

Which is why we put in the scrubs at halftime up 31-0.
We held them to -69 yards rushing.

TTU was fresh off a 44 point spanking to OU and and a near loss to BAYLOR

They were one game away from a National championship appearance. They went into the cotton bowl as a 1 loss team.
Were they overrated? yes.
Did we beat them like dogs. certainly.

I gotta say, I always thought bama and ohio st. fans were the most delusional in the country.

I stand corrected. What championship did ole mrs. win last year? The National Title? The SEC? The SEC West? GTFO

Ole mrs. hasn't accomplished a fricking thing in my lifetime.

Ya'll are set up for an epic FAIL. I can't wait!!!

That's all I'm trying to say.
I picked Bama to win the west preseason last year.
Ask duke.
I think that Nick Saban is the best coach in the country.
A bama NC is just a year or two away.
It won't be this year.

Ole Miss is the team in the west.
I'm not expecting us to be at the top every year. We're going to have a very rough 2010. This is our year though. The stats and the research dictate it. We're liable to lose 3 or 4 sec games, but on paper we are the best team.

Overall end stats were pretty dang close not a sign that either dominated at the end of the day.

Ole Miss Alabama
1st Downs 14 15
3rd down efficiency 2-14 3-11
4th down efficiency 2-4 0-0
Total Yards 359 326
Passing 201 219
Comp-Att 17-33 16-25
Yards per pass 6.1 8.8
Rushing 158 107
Rushing Attempts 34 34
Yards per rush 4.6 3.1
Penalties 4-27 6-55
Turnovers 3 2
Fumbles lost 1 1
Interceptions thrown 2 1
Possession 29:35 29:25

as far as runs and long runs.. here are the stats

Ole Miss

CAR YDS AVG TD LG
E. Davis 11 70 6.4 0 62
D. McCluster 7 28 4.0 0 9
B. Bolden 7 25 3.6 0 10
J. Snead 5 23 4.6 0 17
C. Eason 3 6 2.0 0 4
M. Summers 1 6 6.0 0 6
Team 34 158 4.6 0 62

Alabama

M. Ingram 17 73 4.3 1 19
G. Coffee 13 52 4.0 0 14
-. Team 2 -2 -1.0 0 0
J. Wilson 2 -16 -8.0 0 0
Team 34 107 3.1 1 19

Taking away that one long run, Bama was grinding it out a little bit more.

So was Bama. I'll even go so far as to say less than 9 1/2 minutes away.

You're making an excuse though. Arky stunk and you barely won. They had a losing record in the SEC.

Jevan couldn't hit the broad side of the "barn". We won that game in spite of him.

Jevan having that bad a game doesn't show a team that was top notch and consitent. Auburn had a losing record in the SEC.

quote:

4 of those losses were to the 4 best teams in the SEC. They were the fifth best team. They took the "best team in the west to OT"

But they still had a losing record in the SEC and a brand new QB under center.

quote:

Which is why we put in the scrubs at halftime up 31-0.
We held them to -69 yards rushing.

Miss St. also had a losing record in the SEC.

That was a quality win. But that one win away also happened to be 45 points away. They were a product of the Big 12 hype machine. A good win though.

Just look at the combined records of the SEC teams you beat in that stretch...

9-23.

It was a very good run but once again nothing about the schedule was scary.

The Florida win early was great. The USC, Vandy, and Wake losses early were really bad. Overall a good season but you're strength of schedule down the end was bad. That really shouldn't be hard to admit.

cool. thanks for the post Alahunter. That's what I thought.

I think this years Bama vs ole Miss played in a box moreso than last year b/c of Bama's qb situation. I think it could be something like 12-14, or 15-17. In that type of game a long run can be the difference and Davis went untouched for about 60 yards in a simple run play.

It was a counter.
A non-freshman finishes that run.
rookie mistake.

I never said we were the best team in the country though.

You went on a rant on how you were the best team in the country at the end but won't look at your strength of schedule... so I imagine that's why you're done arguing.

In all seriousness, just because Brando's daughter goes to OM, doesn't mean he's an Ole Miss homer. This year is the first time he's ever said anything good about Ole Miss. The majority of our fans still hate him because he trashed Oxford/Ole Miss a few years ago in a newspaper column.

If anyone out there thinks we won't be good because of the "They're Ole Miss" argument, yall need to wake up and smell the bourbon.

And I'll take our starting 22 over any team except UF as well. If you want to break down positions with me then bring it on.

And for the last time, we lost to Vandy, USC, and Wake Forest because we turned it over 11 or 12 times in those 3 games combined. All three teams were solid last year.

I'm not arguing that Ole Miss is bad. I think they've got a good shot to win the SEC. I would argue that Vandy, USC, and Wake were on the mediocre side of solid.

I think your starting 22 is good. I think losing Oher, Jerry, and Wallace will hurt more than people are saying. Just like losing Smith, Caldwell, and Rashad hurts us. Those are tough guys to replace.

Regardless I think Ole Miss will be solid this year.
