Given the situation, and with his arm strength, he didn't even have to field the ball cleanly. He just needed to keep it from the outfield.
Back to the original topic, I don't root for State for a more simple reason, and it's not personal. I'm anti-SEC now. My only loyalties and monies will directly benefit LSU.
