That may have been the case before 92 and the Bowl Coalition. Since then though, there's been a system in place that they agreed to play under so they can't pull the luck card.

After watching lsu 2003 and uf 2008, the luck card became very playable.

LSU fans are familiar with this scenario.

This season (because of scheduling) we will have to beat Georgia and Alabama twice to win the National Championship.

I’m looking forward to it.

Georgia is in the East. Can’t get much more lucky than than. You’re still SEC so you get the benefit of that but you play what is basically a cupcake schedule with the exception of 1 or 2 games per year.

A decent team can easily win the East and luck up and win the SEC championship game and thus get into the playoff. (Obvious because it happened last year)

A decent team in the West ain’t going to the SEC Championship game. You have to be better than decent. LSU, MS State, A&M were all decent teams last year. Auburn and Alabama were better than decent last year.

Maybe you forgot due to old age or are too young to have watched, but Lsu lost to an east team in both 2003 and 2007.

You think you could beat Bama twice in the same season?

Do you even beat them once last year?

You may be right but you need to win the east more than one year straight to make that claim. Recruiting super well doesn't automatically mean you will win the east every year. Good chance of it though since you have no competition to win it.

Auburn fans laugh at that picture. I would love to see GA face two #1 teams and beat them. Then proceed to play the SEC championship game against one of those teams again??

That’s an odd question from a lsu guy, but I do think we would have beaten Bama at least once with 4 q’s of hurts.

What was lucky about LSU 2003?

We beat you guys twice? Idk how we got lucky?

OU got lucky with given the chance at the bcs title and USC cheated their way to get there which if I recall their wins are vacated

Yet last season we played Mississippi State, Auburn and Alabama....and this year we will play Auburn, LSU and probably Alabama. Seems like a decent enough schedule to me.

Did you watch the SEC Championship game? Which part of that game was luck?

This is true. But, honestly, what competition does Alabama have in the West?

To somehow get a title shot after a loss to 5 loss Florida and then not even having to face the #1 team is multiple levels of luck.

Yeah. And that is one year, so there is that. And, fwiw, they tied for first in their division, so there is that, too.

ETA
In the last 10 years Alabama has played in the SEC Championship game 6 times, and they tied for first in their division one or two more times.
So there's that, too.

And beat two West teams last year. I mean, we played the three best west teams.
