I called the LSU vet office and they said they were gearing up for a suprise but would not say anything else??? I don't know. I could see them taking him to ATL for a championship game but not Alabama. It would be pretty freakin kool though, guess will find out saturday???

if he comes up here, there might be an open season on exotic animals.

Well there is no season on exotics( at least in most places) so it's always open.

I think if he was brought up overnight, someone would shoot him and present Saban with a Tigerskin rug for his office for Christmas.

Upchurch is legit and a real receiving threat out of the backfield; that's big news for y'all.
Is Peek gonna play?

I'm thinking he will, but it will be on a limited basis. He's not getting alot of work this week. Having said that, it wouldn't surprise me if they kept him out one more week to make sure he's healed up for the stretch run if the others are holding their own in the game.

Thanks. If he doesn't suit up who will get the reps Smelley (sp.?) or Dial? Neither one seems to have the pass catching ability Peek has, but both seem to be solid blockers.

We'll probably use 4 TE's again like we did against Tennessee if he can't go again. We had a RS Freshman, Michael Williams get a good bit of work in too. Dial is gonna be good, as is Smelley, but they've got a little to go on their blocking assignments. They'll be ok I think, but still hurts to have Peek out, he's got the skills and hands that's helped our offense out alot this year.
eta- I'm surprised Smelley hasn't gotten the ball thrown to him more when he's in. He came on strong at the end of last year and has good hands.

I just found this posted a couple of hrs ago:
quote:
It looks like it will be a game-time decision Saturday for Alabama tight end Colin Peek, who has been recovering from a sprained MCL suffered in his left knee during warm-ups before the Tennessee game.
Saban said on his radio show tonight that Peek remained "questionable for this game, at least for now."
Peek has practiced some this week but was not full-speed during any of Alabama's workouts. Saban said Alabama is prepared to play without him, and redshirt freshman Michael Williams would get the bulk of the snaps in Peek's place.

Our backups will probably do all right but we really can't replace Peek.
It would probably do Upchurch some good to juke every once in a while health wise but what can you say he likes lighting people up. He's a guy with the talent to make a team in the Pros but no way anyone risks a draft pick on him.

Peek's been a great asset for y'all this year and it's tough be tough to fill in for him, but you've got some good ones in the wings.
Don't know Smelley's stats for this year, but I remember JPW getting the ball to him a good bit last season. Think Peek has better hands, but Smelley seems capable.

I'd feel better with Peek in, but hopefully they can take up some slack if he isn't. This is a game where you want everyone healthy.

The thing with Peek is its kind of like replacing Donta in a way cause of his versatility, replacing Donta means finding a physical guy that can play inside on run/pass downs and finding somebody that can replace him with his hand on the ground on passing situations. Peek is a really good receiver and blocker, Smelley's a good enough receiver but kind of meh as a blocker, Williams is huge so I would assume a good blocker but a bit of an unknown as a receiver.

yeah.. that's a pretty good analysis. Hopefully Williams will prove to have some good hands and route running ability. Would be nice if he showcased it Saturday if he plays much.

When you guys got Peek from GT I knew he was gonna be good especially since McElwain started using the TE as a receiving threat more. I'm a little biased because it was my position, but TE is one of the most underutilized weapons in football IMO.
And when you've got a guy like Peek that can block AND catch it can set up some good mismatches and help the run. The first I've heard of the Williams kid is in this thread, but I'll check him out.
