Thinking about the Baylor U scandals earlier

It boggles the mind how quickly Baylor has been able to get back on its feet in football and basketball after such huge scandals. The basketball team had a damn player murder another player over drugs and the coach tried covering it up and the football team was apparently free to rape as they pleased because the coach covered for them. That has to be the most corrupt University in the country.

Think about it, that’s CRAZY.

They actually got BETTER. The basketball scandal happened in 2003:
“The basketball program experienced a resurgence under coach Scott Drew with an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2008 for the first time in 20 years with a 9–7 conference record and the team's first national ranking in 39 years. “

And that should be the end of your post.

I’ll say no more, apart from the fact that there’s only one program in the country that makes my skin crawl more than UTex.

Yea it's been quite crazy. Maybe they just found a new avenue to recruit shitty human beings like the U did

I feel the other points made were necessary to drive it home

Fair enough.

Though if you’re enumerating Baylor’s sketchy and hideous woes, you’re hugely missing the mark.
They make Penn State look repentant and contrite.

Nah.
We’ve had our share of screw-ups.
But Baylor is ... dark.

I wish we would’ve added Baylor instead of Texas A&N.

Baylor even made fun of the milkmen.

Sandusky was a perv but I just really doubt that anyone knew the full extent of it. Sandusky wasn’t some legend who wasn’t expendable.

I just can’t see Paterno knowing Sandusky was sodomizing children in the showers and was like “y’all just quiet down about it and let Jerry do his thing”

I want to believe your perspective.

Unfortunately I don’t.
His wife knew exactly what was happening—as did her friends (coach’s wives).

The entire story makes me want to vomit.
But I don’t know any more than you do.
I have the gift/curse of reading people—bordering on being a medium.

Baylor ... shudder.

Which goes to show all it takes is good support from your athletic department to find a good coach who can build a solid supporting cast.

Yeah but makes you wonder what Baylor knows that others don’t... private school in isolated location with really sketchy stuff that happens and somehow remain really good no matter the coach. Idk just food for thought

Handing over your daughters as meat for players is somehow worse than handing over your sons as meat for coaches?

The basketball team took years to rebuild. They just stayed with a young guy when a lot of other schools would have bailed

They’re both chilling.

I just happen to believe the institutionalization runs deeper at Baylor.
And the breadth—across most sports—is farther than the depth.

I think it's more a case of your school willing to win at any cost, no matter what rules are broken or who is victimized. It brings to mind the years that Nebraska and Tom Osborne covered for a player that was essentially a barbarian, because Laurence Phillips scored lots of touchdowns. Battered women on campus was a small price to pay until the heat just got too much.

Maybe you A&M guys know more than us. I will give y'all that. I remember reading on here well before the rape culture scandal at Baylor that it was well known Art Briles was a shite person to people in the state and I wrote it off on A&M fans likely being sour about the Baylor success.
