Irrelevant. These teams may not have belonged in the playoffs, but neither did Bama or Old Miss. neither of you had any better chance at winning it than the current teams in it. The committee knew these teams were not going to be able to win it. But they also knew neither could Ole Miss or Bama but somebody had to go and they went with the better record because having a better record should count. They didn’t have the bad losses that Ole Miss and Bama both had.
But the bottom line remains, no other teams technically belonged.
