Most will end up in worse/lower situations than when they went in. The portal experiment has failed. It works for about 20 top tier programs and about 5% of the players. Everything else has been an overwhelming net negative.

Who the hell thought this would be a good idea for all of college football?

A handful of high profile players and weak school leadership.

Wasn't this forced on college football by court settlements?

I would imagine a large portion of these players are in their last chance phase, or are being processed out of college football.

Can you provide a link to where you got this 5500 number so we can see later how many ended up on a team and how many are finished with their college ball?

The court rulings were the death nell but it should have never gotten that far and wouldn’t have had school leadership maintained the authority granted to the NCAA. The schools left the door unlocked and the athletes sprinted through it while the courts held it open.

The same group of people that wanted to expand the playoffs to 12 teams, then 16, then 32 teams.

6 teams at most would have been sufficient, but not...had to be 12. Now they want 16 and rumblings already are starting for 32.

The same people who wanted to stop the elite teams from winning and were willing to watch the whole damn thing burn down for the sake of "parity".
