Yeah. Like the pick 6 we got against LSU and they called it back because we pushed the QB who was now a defender. And don’t give me that ba call of being a blind side push.

How can you interfere with an uncatchable pass? The defender has the same right to the ball as the receiver. How would you even know who to call it on if nobody has a shot at the ball?

This is true. There was a prime example of this in the recent Missouri/A&M game where a flag was picked up on a severely under-thrown pass. Missouri fans will know what I am talking about.

If a defender is called for holding a WR on the right side of the field

And the pass is thrown deep on the left side of the field

And is obviously uncatchable

They will still call defensive holding

How do you know the QB wouldn't have thrown it to the held receiver if he wasn't held?

Underthrown passes are the most controversial calls. Usually the receiver is going back for a catchable ball and is illegally blocked by the defender, but it is a hard thing to reward. There is also a low yet possible chance that the “underthrown” pass is an intentional part of the play. I don’t think any serious person has a good answer for these scenarios.

Worst is the half distance penalties near the goal for the team facing the goal line.
Penalties should be half the distance away from the goal exactly like the penalties are assessed towards the goal line when it is half the distance.

Nah, frick all that. This is literally the only scenario where I can think of where the defense has a situational rules advantage.

I wish they'd expand it. If a tick tack foul is on the complete other side of the field and did not affect the play whatsoever, I think they should be be enforced on the next play from scrimmage but not take away what the previous play. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a great play, kick return, something get completely erased because of some non-major penalty that was nowhere near the play and affected the play in zero way, many games many teams, not just my own. It makes me sick every time.

I agree. I think many more refs should just keep the flag in their pocket when they see some minimal penalty that doesn’t even affect the play.

I sort of agree on the "uncatchable" thing. What I mean is it often comes down to a judgement call. There are balls so overthrown even the Flash couldn't get there in time to make the catch while other times the PI is clearly the cause of the ball being ruled "uncatchable"

It's the latter that drives me crazy...especially when you know the WR in question has the wheels to get there and at least attempt a diving catch if it weren't for the DB draped over him while the ball is still in the air.

So if you hold a clerk at gunpoint, but there ain't no money in the register - no harm, no foul?

I think the illegal formation rule is such bs and is a good way to swing games the way they want. Can be called on every play basically like holding.

Exactly

And the defender committing the foul didn’t know the ball was uncathable

Falling down with no one touching you and being counted as down.

Thats actually the worst.

The need to go to NFL rules.
