The Manziel family are a bunch of dumb shits. Why would they want to make Johnny look like a bigger douche than he already is?

This part seemed a little weird to me:
I guess a father and son could bond over punching kids in the balls, but it seems odd to me - and not in a perverted way or anything, just in a "grown men don't act like stupid kids" kind of way.
quote:
Without so much as a nod, the Crotch Shot Ninjas struck: Paul punched Nate in the nuts, and, simultaneously, Johnny kicked Bryan and hit Colton, both in the balls, both at the same time, and as the three dudes doubled over and the band howled in laughter, Johnny and Paul gave each other a fist bump.

Johnny and his camp just seem to have... not adapted.
Agreed. This article didn't reflect well on Johnny or his family, IMO. With his parents enabling his behavior at every turn (providing him with alcohol, and money to go jet-setting off to Toronto to party with Drake, etc.) they don't get much sympathy from me. I'm sure they're worried about him, and they should be. But they're part of the problem. Antics like his would not have been tolerated in the home where I grew up. More respect was demanded from my brothers and me. My parents taught that stuff when we were young - at 20, it's too late.
And Johnny himself sounds like a spoiled brat - albeit a very troubled one. I can't imagine living in his fishbowl, but he chose this, and keeps choosing it every day. His talent alone would bring attention, but his attitude and antics make it much worse. He's been told how to tone down the media - stay away from social media and tone down the partying; he has ignored that advice. The thing is, when you embrace the spotlight like he has, you have to be prepared for it all the time. You don't get to pick and choose when you want attention and when you don't.
And what was the deal with that part of the story about Johnny and his dad junk punching their friends and hi-fiving each other over it? Do that think that shite is funny? The maturity gene must be lacking in that family.

He seems like a nice guy. He's certainly watch to watch play. I think he will be just fine.

Sounds like Paul is nothing more than a rich, spoiled rotten brat and so is his son. Paul doesn't understand the need for aTm compliance with the NCAA? He has the nerve to send a shitty text message to aTm coaching staff when they don't respond to him? He's disgruntled because Sumlin got a freakin raise and the school makes money off his son? He allows a dropout to manage JM's PR? seriously? He allows the kid to quit therapy after a few visits because JM didn't want to stay off twitter, set boundaries, build a wall around himself? Tells the aunt to STHU at the family dinner table, and the whole family sits in odd silence till Johnny starts clowning with the granny?
quote:
All this, but you left out being worried about Johnny's drinking while buying him drinks at the golf course. Wait, what?
Very revealing article. I had no idea the dad was such a nimrod.
Very revealing article indeed. The parents (dad) aren't helping this kid at all. I wonder why in the world Paul allowed this journalist this much inside information about the family? It doesn't paint a pretty picture for the dad or the son. In fact, it explains a lot of the reason why JM is the way he is today. He acts out (like dad texting the aTm coaching staff and calling them assholes), either doesn't understand the rules or thinks he's above the rules (like dad buying/ordering alcohol for his son in the club/restaurant/NYC hotel), throws fits and vents publically (like dad is disgruntled about Sumlin's raise & aTm making $$ off JM.)
He's a spoiled rotten kid that's been given everything he wants, when things don't go "his way" be lashes out and acts disrespectful. Dad acts disrespectful to the maybe the only folks that have a chance to get through to his son, Sumlin/aTm/and coaching staff.

Cas and others you might enjoy the article - sheds alot of light about the situation, including his father. Eddie - its not just what you are guessing. There is a reason some non Aggies are saying shite I feel sorry for the dude.
All the JFF shite you have read - spend the time for one with a little substance. Its an attack piece - but its obvious.

The media wants to make everytime he scratched his arse to be a story.
The media and many of the Rant. I'm waiting for the Rant to finally get fed up with the media and revolt and support an SEC guy even though he is not perfect. The Rant is worse than the media half the time.

STFU
I finally read the dumb article.
So the Manziels want to complain about how awful it is to have such constant media scrutiny
So what do they do? They let a writer follow them to dinner the golf course etc to let everyone know how awful it is to be under the media spotlight
Please GMAFB
Want to be out of the spotlight? Don't invite the media to your family functions.
What a crock of doo doo that family is shoveling

Because you have supported many other athletes with flaws and will continue to do so.
Disrespectful to elders from a bullshite article - now I have heard it all. Lets add that to all the players on campuses - disrespect to elders. I bet JFF is on the top of that list.
Sad.

Exactly. He's not a nice guy, or a good kid. He's a spoiled, disrespectful jackass.
If he shapes up when camp starts, you'll see fewer stories about him. I'm already completely tired of all the JFF stories. If he keeps up the partying, they won't stop. His choice.

I don't see other players inviting reporters to follow them around while they insult their elders either.

Not just from the article. He was incredibly disrespectful to the Mannings. Seems like his regular behavior to me.
And the fact that he snapped at his aunt to STHU when a reporter was sitting there? Most kids learn not to misbehave when they're being watched before they start preschool - they know they'll get caught and be in trouble. If he hasn't learned that one by age 20, I don't hold out much hope.
And I can support his talent without supporting or condoning his bratty behavior.

yeah...you don't see AJ McCarron getting all crap being flung at him because AJ acts right. The only trash on AJ is his tattoo.

tired of seeing so many articles about Johnny's personal life.
Feel bad for the kid at this point. He wasn't near perfect to begin with but this type of attention certainly won't help.

The real question is. Whe the hell would his father air this private, family stuff to the public.
Hey world, my son is immature and a drunk. It's not our nor his fault though, it's everyone else.
Sounds like they've almost given up on their damn son too. That last quote was just insane. I don't have kids yet, but I darn sure know it's you and your kid verse the world. Seems like his dad wants to freaking jump ship.

Most athletes realize there is added scrutiny because they are athletes. So they're a little more careful. That doesn't mean they don't party, they just don't take an entourage with them, and try to stay a little more under the radar. And they party with each other instead of going to frat parties at rival schools.
