Yes, they do. Justice Haynes and Richard Young are going to be great. Add Jace McClelland and Roydell Williams and they do have enough backs.

I'm not sold they will be able to change the identity of their offense in one off season, though. It will be interesting to watch.

Just keep drinking your unfiltered swamp water. BAMA will handle the rest.

The average football IQ of LSU fans is well south of 50.

LSU is 27-55 vs The King of CFB

I suppose we'll see.

Last year just felt different for some reason. We got beat by Tennessee for the first time during Saban's tenure, and we lost to Brian Kelly in his first season - usually Saban beats first year coaches.

While both of those losses were uncharacteristic, they were both played in front of the 2 most hostile crowds in cfb history, and both crowds rushed the field after the game.
Both games were just incredibly unlucky. The Tennessee game set all kinds of records with the number of penalties called against us, and we had a ton of unlucky turnovers, and still barely got beat.
The LSU game I wouldn't call unlucky, but the team kinda slept through the game similar to the 4 OT Iron Bowl. And we came out and scored a TD in overtime, which would almost never = a loss, but crazy Brian Kelly rolled the dice and went for 2.

Basically we lost to LSU because we lost the OT coin toss.

So all things considered, while last season was uncharacteristically bad, the 2 losses were incredibly unlucky, and probably (hopefully) not a sign of things to come.
Alabama still has an absurd amount of talent, and we still have a great staff that is locked in. I guess we'll see what happens.

We're not necessarily going to change our identity, but gone are the days of pass-happy offense. We don't have a first round talent at QB this year. In all actuality, this may not be such a bad thing. We're going to line up, and smash people in the trenches. We have an elite O-line and elite RBs. Tyler Buchner is a legit running threat.

I think most of the passing game this year will come off of run fakes. As long as our offense can avoid negative plays, I think we'll be fine.

The real difference will be seen on defense. We're going back to our old school, tough as nails defense. Alabama will once again have a defense that people fear.

Isn't that the very definition of changing your identity?

Alabama went from a run heavy, defense oriented team, to a pass happy outscore the other teams to now going more towards a more balanced offense.
Those are three very distinct identities. I'm not saying it is a bad thing...just different from what you have been the last 4-5 years.

That comes from a change in your offensive philosophy. You cannot have a "old school, tough as nails defense" with a pass happy offense.

I guess my point is that we're just going back to something we've already done before. It's not like we're installing a totally new offense that the coaches are unfamiliar with.
We'll be using the same terminology, and similar concepts that will just be tailored to fit our personnel.

At this point, we don't even know who the QB will be, which will largely determine our identity.

Actually you have all new coaches, so it is different depending on the offenses they ran at their last stop.
Don't get me wrong. I think Alabama is definitely doing the right thing. I just think it will take more than one off season to remake the mindset. There is a world of difference in run blocking and pass blocking. There is also a world of difference in the mindset of an Olineman that primarily run blocks to that of a pass blocker. Alabama can change the makeup, but it takes a whole reset. The Alabama OLine lost that nastiness they had in years past, and that is not something you get back quickly. You go from being a mobile lineman that relies on footwork, balance and finesse to one that requires brute strength, nasty disposition and a bulldozer mentality.

I didn't mean to be argumentative, and you obviously know your team better than me. Both Alabama and LSU will be very interesting to watch this year to see how they progress.
