Richt had the same advantages but went w/out a SECC for 10 years and was routinely out recruited by Bama,LSU and
Florida the 2nd half of his tenure.

What you will not admit was Richt recruited honestly and he lost out of many good GA players to coaches who would pay those recruits money. One of the main reasons Smart was a very good selection at UGA. Notice how many fans complained about Smarts on the field coaching, but never about recruiting. When recruiting surpassed with his coaching, it produced wins. That was due to keeping the instate players with money under the table early and now with NIL.

So UGA just wins its own championships, the staff is just along for the ride?

That's our mantra at LSU. Just run with it.

So why did he recruit so well at the beginning of his career? He also recruited well his last 2 years but by that time it was too little and late.

Why in the world would they complain about his recruiting?

Nick Saban gave LSU a solid foundation and won the first title. Voodoo magic won LSU in 2007 and then 2019 was...just straight up raw talent. Generational QB + Two Generational WRS

UGA recruiting under smart is mostly out of state kids now

2017 class - 9/26 out of state
2018 class - 12/26 out of state
2019 class - 17/24 out of state
2020 class - 17/25 out of state
2021 class - 10/20 out of state
2022 class - 17/30 out of state
2023 class - 21/26 out of state

The state of Georgia has a very high population of 4 and 5 star players. This is a nice advantage for UGA when ~40% of your total numbers come from the state. Credit for combining this easy access with getting a bunch (basically all when combined with UA) of national 4 and 5 stars.

Maybe if AU were even slightly relevant, your coach could pull some decent 3 star talent from GA
