This is stunning.

If money is power in college sports, then the Southeastern Conference was making its case for intercollegiate supremacy long before its recent poaching of Texas and Oklahoma. -- Daniel Libit, Yahoo Sports

For the tax year 2018-2019, the SEC generated $720 million compared with the NCAA as-a-whole, $1.12 billion. This is BEFORE Texas & Oklahoma approached the SEC for membership and was accepted.

This means....The trend line has long suggested that the SEC would eventually overtake the NCAA (and the Big Ten) as the biggest-earning college sports organization in America.

No wonder Texas wanted to join the SEC.

So the SEC "poached" UT/OU even though both teams "approached the SEC for membership?"

That is a weird definition of closing in.

The SEC needs to increase revenue 55% to catch up.

Is this saying that the SEC generated 64% of the NCAA's total revenue or is that 1.12 billion figure not including the 720 million from the SEC? I know the SEC is a cash cow but I'm not sure I buy that. March Madness alone generates over a billion dollars in ad revenue.

Found his twitter and saw that he talked about this on Finebaum yesterday.

Anyone listen to this? I'm curious if someone brought up the big bad SEC "poaching" these teams.

Keep in mind these figures are for 2018-2019, 3 tax year cycles ago. The SEC today, no doubt, has closed this gap even more.

It's a poorly written article that doesn't quite spell things out correctly.

Moving off of CBS to ESPN will probably net the SEC +$300 million a year.

For the sake of legal issues, that's how it happened.

Agreed. Hard to poach someone that asks you for membership before you say anything.

The article discussed on our local sports radio(different from this one I believe) said that the NCAA would be at 1.2 billion in 2025 and the SEC with TU and OU would be at 1.3 billion.
