Since the CFP is essentially null and void I would like to see the SEC and ACC create an 8 game post season playoff.
The ACC winner and SEC winner are the top seeds. Runner ups get 3 and 4th. 5-8 can be based on record, rankings, determined by the coaches and AD's of the SEC and ACC.
The winner can declare itself whatever is deemed appropriate. frick the rest.

Honestly.
No one is going to care about a "champion" of an 8 game playoff between two conferences
Nobody
But you can play it for shits and giggles

Big 12 will join maybe even the American?

Why not? Bowls aren't happening so expand the playoff and give more teams in the ACC/SEC exposure for participating in the season.

You don't think the players or the fans of the winning team would care?

How many times has the B1G even been relevant in the BCS or the CFP?

If the Big Ten sits out Fall 2020, a National Championship without the most historic power conference will be suspect.
They've been in every title game since the BCS started except in '20, '19, '18, '17, '16, '14, '13, '12, '11, '10, '09, '06, '05, '04, '02, '01, '00, & '99.

Why not? 5 out of 6 CFP champions have come from those 2 conferences, and going back even further 13 of the last 14 national champions. OSU could have been a contender this year but it sure as shite wasn't going to be anyone from the Pac 12. The winner of a SEC/ ACC only season would definitely be viewed as the national champion, maybe with a slight asterisk

So we're providing most of the teams I presume?
Great that the ACC is playing, but it's Clemson and the 11 dwarfs.
