They need to make the playoffs home games for the higher seed up until the title game. Bama and Clemson fans aren't going to travel to Dallas and Miami knowing they will have to fly to San Fran a week later to see the real game they want to be at.

Yes. They are profitable. This isn't even debatable. They're going in the hole over the billion dollar (annually) deals just to get a few NBA games. And now they've had a huge ratings decline since Lebron went to the west coast.

Lots of chatter ESPN isn’t going to be able to afford to renew MLB when the contract comes up. If current trends continue ESPN will have to be subsidized by Disney going forward or they will have to have massive layoffs and content cutbacks.

The quarters will be on campus the 3rd weekend in Dec.
They are going to 8!

The contract has 7 more years , but the advertising is about to re bid. We will be at 8 in 2-3 years.

They won't be able to renew MNF in 2021, either. This is why they are self producing more content that costs them little (think Netflix) like owning their own bowl games and kickoff classics.

I vote for 6. 5-6 play first game at 5s home field.

No. Nobody gets a bye in the college football beauty contest. 4 or 8 teams - I'm good with either.

Bama Clemson 4. Then they will be disappointed. Golden Domers win tomorrow.

Friendly fire - but it must be done. National 30-second ads during the Birmingham Bowl were going for as little as $5200 as late as the day of the game - no nationally telecast game can make money at $5200 per ad. Most of the College Bowls lose money. The Playoffs and 3 other Major Bowls save them. They couldn't even sell all the ad time available - so they filled the time with Playoff promos.

Id rather watch the games on my new Samsung 82" Q8FN QLED Smart 4K UHD TV anyway.

Attendance means zero, TV is where the money is made.

Agree. 4 teams is the perfect format unless they scrap all Conference Championship & Bowl games.

Televise games in empty stadiums and the TV viewers will disappear too.

The live gameday experience is the backbone of college football.

Bowl games have nothing to do with fan attendance.

They are all about TV $$.

Yes.

I don’t watch all the games anymore, but it’s a big turnoff when the camera accidentally pans up to the stands and they are empty.

That would be a terrible look for a “playoff game”

Sure, the stadiums will be empty. Maybe some empties, but you won't notice on TV.

The final nail in ESPN’s coffin will be when Netflix and Amazon bid on the SEC and B1G football contracts. It’s coming.
